Ubisoft have confirmed that due to certain issues on the PS3 version of Assassin's Creed, they are currently working on a patch.

"Following our recent statement regarding the freeze issues that some consumers are facing with Assassin’s Creed on PlayStation 3, we can confirm that we are actively working on a game update. This update will help improve the stability of the game and will be released as soon as possible. In the meantime thank you for your ongoing feedback and patience." - UK Community Manager

However, as has been the issue with other projected patches, Ubisoft was unclear as to how gamers who aren't online through the PS3 will be able to update their game. Also, there is no specific time at which the new patch will be available. Stay tuned to PSU.com for more information.
