In Japan, games such as Monster Hunter G for the PlayStation 2 and Monster Hunter Portable for the PSP have cemented themselves as one of the region’s most successful franchises.

At this year’s Tokyo Game Show, Capcom revealed that there will be a third entry in the series. More interesting, however, is how early gamers in Japan will be able to get their hands on it.

This week the company revealed that Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G will be released for the PSP in Japan in March 2008. The game can be bought as a stand-alone purchase, or as a special edition bundle pack that includes the new PSP-2000 model aka, PSP Slim.

Even though the game is just a mere five-month from its release, not much is known about the sequel. The only thing we have now is that Capcom is promising new levels, monsters and quest which is pretty much what you will expect from a sequel.

They also stated that you will have the ability to continue the game using your save file from the last game, similar to that of the .hack// games on the PlayStation 2.

Stay tuned for more details as they break.

Why bother - PS2 is a dead end. Its soooo last Gen according to Sony.

No point waisting money on PS2 technology - its not like Sony even bothers to support it with PS3 hardware. Just download a torrent - Sony wont mind as they officially treat PS2 software as abandonware. Ha ha ...

That is absolute nonsense. Sony would never say such things about their most successful console. Ur a moron - sorry for that but it has to be said.

Sony are not saying it but as a big PS2 user I see Sony's actions making me feel my purchases have been wasted. It would have been a lot cheaper to have chipped my console and downloaded the games. As it stands I cant use any of my software properly on my PS3 once my PS2 (and Im on my third) fails. Im not buying another.

So why pay if Sony can't be R-ssed with supporting PSX & PS2 going forward? Sony say one thing but do another - they are proaving more & more to be an unreliable supplier. I purchased a few hundred Playstation games over the past decade so yes I am stupid - but Sony management are certified cretins.

Let's see what they put out on the PSP.  Will it be some sort of port of the Wii game?

Why do you comment on everything here? I think you are an Xbot. You criticize everything everyone from PSU posts. If you don't like Sony so much then stfu and stop commenting on here.

Lithgow - I have support the Cronulla Sharks football team all my life but like all fans I get upset when I see stupid mistakes being repeated and the team running dead last. When I see one of the players constantly dropping the ball I think its a bit stupid saying "oh dear - Peter has knocked on 7 times this month each time costing us the match - but what the heck... hes a nice guy...Yay! way to go Peter" ....

Sony is dropping the ball and letting the team down. They do bugger all advertising, they focus on Bluray movies instead of games, and are cutting off its PS2 user base....FFS they need to get their game together.

    (1) Make it attractive for PS2 users to put aside their old machines and buy a PS3. If they cant do that atleast dont make it hard for PS2 gamers to play their games on PS3...

    (2) Get some games out showing PS3 plays them better than Xbox360 (not worst)

    (3) Attract the key franchises to come back as exclusives (even if that means paying them)

    (4) Make sure the dev kits are good and broadly available - and maybe run dev programs with a Sony trained crack crew to help optimise important 3rd party games.

    (5) Quit with the limited wiered advertising involving babies and pedophiles in toilets and laser beams and just adverise PS3 and cool games.

    Pretty bluddy simple.
