Axl Rose slams Activision for use of tracks in Guitar Hero

Guns N’ Roses front man Axl Rose has suggested that he may be seeking legal action against publishing giant Activision, alleging the firm included his group’s tracks in its popular Guitar Hero franchise without permission.

Rose, 46, stated in a message to fans that he has no qualms with former guitarist Slash appearing in the music simulation title, though claims the tracks ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ and ‘Sweet Child ‘O Mine’ were featured in an “unauthorized” state.

“Slash being in Guitar Hero is fine, but no when Activision in using ‘Jungle’ unauthorized,” said Rose. “I wasn’t broadsided. I read about it as it moved along but Activision continually denied it right up to the release. That’s some low life chicanery on all their parts.”

“Yes, Slash was in Guns and on ‘Jungle’ and he has rights to perform it, but not to be represented in this context in association with Guns. And since they weren’t granted the license, it’ll take some sorting.”

Isn't Axl Rose washed up?  I hope Activision stomps him and Chinese Democracy straight into the ground.  GNR is dead and has been dead since Slash departed.

@1 Chinese democracy?  Keep taking the tablets the docd gave ye man.  Also the washed up has been has a point.  Companies like Activision take the proverbial all the time.  Hope he gets a good settlement out of it.  All rock band ever did was steal a generation of people who may have learned a real instrument only to flood the world with cheap plastic to damage the environment.

I agree # 1, just another washed out musician trying to get his cut of the pie. It's really sad, look at what happend to Metallica when they tried to sue Napster back in early 2000 or before. They lost alot of respect of their fans after that, I should know I used to be one.

@3 Chinese Democracy is the title of the latest GNR album.  And you can't generalize the situation with Rock Band and Guitar Hero affecting the uptake of musicianship like that.  I actively play guitar and enjoy both of the games, so your argument fails...

And I hadn't picked up a guitar in my life until guitar hero, now i play the real thing. it works both ways. way to over-generalise...

@1 Please, GnR was not just Slash's bad @.$.$ guitar skills, it was also Axl's voice, what you should have said was, since Slash left AND Axl lost his voice. Btw, I still listen to GnR on a regular basis... AT THE STRIP CLUB.

I'm pretty sure Sweet Child 'O Mine was licensed! Besides, it was another company back then, so Axl has to sue two different companies, unless he wants to sue RedOctane only.

Axle Rose is a loser. He has always been a cry baby and will never except that his short time in the lime light is over. He prays for these kinds of situations to occur so he can squeeze every last dime out of the glory days.

@ 10...   When you grow some pubic hair  you may then start understanding what great music is and start giving artists respect.   Even chinese Democrasy is a very good album for today standards.  What's santa got you for xmas? High School Musical?  Bet you can't wait!!

@ 9 and 11 - Axl was cool , nowdays he sucks just like the new GNR , the latest album sucks major balls , its just like one or two songs that are cool , thats pretty much about it. GNR is nothing without Slash, but Axl was allways crying about something... And because of his crying Slash, Duff and Matt left the band, cause of Axl's greedyness.

@ 12...  Sure Axle is a Drama queen, always has been, always will be.... but to say right out he 'now sucks' and 'the new albums sucks' it just your opinion of which many other would disagree. I hope he releases more albums, a bit quicker this time tho!  BTW... I saw Velvet Revolver live this March and Slash is without doubt, a Guitar Hero, one of my Heros.  Best gig I've been  to!

Number 13 is right. Axl Rose is a rock legend and he is far from washed up. I saw him in concert with his new band about 2 years ago and he sounded great. His voice is still strong and he is almost 50. He owns the rights to the GNR name so he should have a say in the song being in the game. Chinese Democracy didn't suck too it is way better than most of the garbage bands release today. Sure its not AFD but it is still a nice CD. Better, This I love, Shackler's Revenge are really good songs. IRS is great too.

I bet about 75% of the Guitar Hero palyerbase would have no idea who GnR are, let alone Axl if it weren't for that game.  I don't understand all of these self-proclaimed 'Rock Legends'.  Without their music being passed down to other generations, there legacy ends.  Axl took to many drugs up the nose so that all of the words he spews out come from the depths of his old, washed-up butt.  Be grateful that some tool at Neversoft found your archaic music fitting for their game.  Be thankful that you received a shred of free advertisement.  GnR being on GH has been the most exciting thing to happen to that band in 20 years.

Hmm, sounds like a bunch of trendy kids here. Sure Axl Rose acts like a ****, but he isn't 'trying to suck publicity', he never has. He's released an LP that took nearly 20yrs of his life to make, and has done NO pr, NO interviews, NO music vids, NO tour. The only thing he has done is go on a couple of gn'r fansites and enter the forums and talk to fans gor a while about his lp. WTH?

Also, GN'R is owned by Axl, always has been, he came up with the name, if a game features the name, they surely have to ask him, right?

And his voice is still great. I must admit it, it sucked from 2000-2005 but it returned, **** knows how! ChiDem is a cool LP.

As for 'all the kids don't even know who gnr are if it werent for guitar hero', what the **** are you smoking? they're like one of the most important rock bands we ever had and any genuine rock fan must surely own at least Appetite for Destruction.

In this day and age of watered-down unambitious poprock if Rose is considered washed up, then I can offer you a sea-view apartment in Central London.
