Cross-platform play for The Agency 'up in the air,' says Sony

Sony Online Entertainment has revealed that the company has yet to decide on whether or not online shooter The Agency will incorporate cross-platform play for PlayStation 3 and PC users.
“We have not decided if you can play between the two. They are cross-platform. We’re able to do it - it’s more of a design concern. We’re doing a lot of focus testing and we’re finding that people just, ‘oh they’ve got a controller, it’s not fair! Well they’ve got a mouse it’s not fair!,” senior game designer Kevin O’ Hara told VideoGamer.com.
“It’s what people say they want at first but when they actually play then… So it’s up in the air. We’ll go through beta with that and get strong opinions on which way to go. But technically we can do it if we want,” he added.
The good news is that both versions of the game should be out simultaneously across multiple regions, though O’ Hara noted that it is highly unlikely the title will see the light of day in 2009.
“We haven’t done a release date yet for it,” he said. “We’re still in development. We’ve got a lot of new features in the game - it’s really coming along. We’re having fun with it. We’ve got a couple more features to work on before we’re comfortable with it."
“I don’t believe it’ll be [out in] 2009. After that the marketing people control that information.”

Please for gods sake stop the stupid "Im first!" thing, it's ridiculous.
Cross-platform would be nice if they could balance it right, which I somehow doubt they can, so I don't think it'll will support cross-platform in the end. But who knows. And I agree, it would give it a (hopefully) pleasant niche factor.

Wasn't this already stated last month. Originally it was up in the air, then the decision was made that it wouldnt be cross-platform, then last month we got a new "up-in-the-air" report, and now today we get another? Why dont you just wait to tell us what's going on when SOE knows what's going on.

Its funny how the senior game designer of Sony Online Entertainment dosnt seem to realize that the PS3 is fully compatible with mouse and keyboard?
The whole "they’ve got a controller, it’s not fair! Well they’ve got a mouse it’s not fair!,” is such a flimsy argument - dont really see why he care about this. Its really simple when it comes to mmo. I say: the more the merrier. The lifespan of this game will be based on how many that plays it. If the userbase of the PS3 version is weak, the game will not do well. A cross-platform feature wil deffo make the game more appealing.
Admin/mod @ Plz make a zero tolerance policy when it comes to these "First!!!!"-comments. Ban those kids please. -

Now if the controller and keyboard/mouse complaint is a big issue why not put the ability to use both in both version since the ds3 works on a pc and keyboard/mouse works on ps3 its not that hard of a challenge look at UT3 so make it cross platform already cause if the pc players really think the controller is gonna help they can use one and for the ps3 ppl who think the pc users r gonna be better with the keyboard/mouse then uve got both sides problem solved by just adding it

Would be fun for PC users especially when you run your hacks. Wallhack, aimbot, no fog, models, etc. Not to mention keyboard and mouse. I think it would be hilarious to see PS3 users slaughtered by those playing on PC's. Whole reason I switched to PS3 for online gaming from the PC was for the whole reason of getting away from cheaters.

They should make at least 3 servers, one for PS3 players only, another for PC players only, and the other for both PS3 and PC players. At least the players will have the choice and most likely they'll need to make seperate servers eventually down the line if lots of peopl;e play it. I intend to get it if the price is reasonable.

Its a good idea but it needs 2 b between xbox and ps3 only because the mouse and keyboard controls r much faster and a console controller and also alot of pc gamers cheat and use auto fire mouses and whatever else

Coming from a previous PC gamer background When playing a shooter, if you are used to it, a mouse is always easier and more accurate then a controller. Yes you could use a mouse and keyboard on PS3 and yes you could use a controller on the PC but lets face it no one is going to... its too much effort for someone to switch for one game as PC users sure as he11 will not use a controller and most people wont be bothered using the mouse on the PS3. It can be a very unfair advantage and people will just whinge and whine when there getting beat. In my opinion it is a serious consideration... to fix it there should be an option to play with just other PS3 users or with both on the servers makiing it fair for everyone, thats how i would resolve it!

Yeah i think all new games if it needs to be implemented when making the game just be multiplatform for online with 360 and PS3. That way we can show the 360 fanboys what were made of!
