ESRB details GTA IV, warns parents

Apparently, GTA IV isn't meant for pre-teen girls. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) and the National Institute on Media and the Family have cautioned parents against purchasing the game for their underage child. According to the ESRB, the mature-rated game will contain "Intense Violence, Blood, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Partial Nudity and Use of Drugs and Alcohol."
So, parents of young children, you've been warned. Don't purchase GTA IV instead of hiring a babysitter for those late Saturday nights. Or do. We don't care. Just be aware that this game might not be the one for your youngin'.

Many 10-15yr old kids will be playing this game no matter what. What I once saw was simply unbelievable: some kid was at my GAME shop convincing her mother to buy him the GTAIII+GTA:VC for him. All he said was "It's just like the Simpsons Hit and Run!". Couldn't help but to jump and tell her mother that the game was about gang life with lots of sex and violence.

this game will be intense. even though i played gta 1 and 2 when i was 12 or something, this game will push realism way more. no one under 13 should play. and if your not old enough to buy it, your parents should be able to tell if your mature enough to play

ive played GTa games since the GTA 3 and that was seven years ago and im 17 now. So i was plaing them when i was about 10 years old and im still normal, and i havent went out and stolen a car, or pick up some hookers, or killed people. I guess it all depends on the people who play it. My mom doesnt care i play it cause she know its just a VIDEO GAME!!!!

I was 16 when I played the GTA 1 demo for the PC(It was from a PC Gamer mag). There were no real warnings about it. Though the graphics were basic and plain and a top down view, I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Since then I've been hooked.
just an observation:
I find it funny how many people call themselves hard core fans of the GTA series and when you ask them about it they say they started playing GTA III. Don't get me wrong, if thats what got you into the series, thats fine. But some of us have been playing since before you could buy the original on the PC (demo).

yeah. this doesn't effect me at all. and my gamestop already knows i am 21 and don't need an ID. so, i might be going tomorrow night. i thought it would be hard to sleep but, it's not so bad. PARENTS DON'T BUY GTAIV AND RUIN IT FOR THE REST OF US WHO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GAMES AND REALITY!!!!!! lol just now on my t.v. a GTAIV commercial came on!

this won't do good anyways they will buy and see there kid playing the game and take it away complain and move on or sue them for there stupid choice of buying this game for there young kids. When will they learn that the esrb gave them the warning and they never listen so they should just read the mature rating and not buy it. so for all the parents who buy it for there kids we have two words for you."shut it"!!!!!!!!!!

I knew a littke 10 year old girl who at the time was playing the old game Carmageddon, and if you know that game you understand that the point of it is to win races but also to kill and maim as many pedestrians as you could. and she took to it like a pro. she's gottab be atleast 18 now and it didn't warp her one bit. She isnt psycho, she dosent kill small animals and she isnt a teen mother so clearly games dont effect everyone the way they claim.
Still the only reason why she was allowed to play the game was because no one told her parents what it was all about which if they did they would clearly never let it happen but at the same time now adays it's easier to find that out thanks to the internet and the clear bold legible markings on the box! I mean really the only thing that would help the visibility any further is to color code the ratings and even then people would STILL complain that they arnt clear enouggh just so thet can blaim the problems of the world on a game rather than take their own responsibility.

No body cares about the sh***t ESRB, i was standing at the store and a mother came asking for GTA for her son and the worker asked her how old is he? she says 13 and she was very happy. ESRB is a waste of time.

All any one has to do is turn on the NEWS, 9 out of 10 news features are about SEX, MURDER, DRUGS, or the WAR. I am 34 grew up on video games went off to the 1st Gulf WAR came back went to college & have a career as a banker. I played games BEFORE there where warnings! Sure the graphics were not great but the CONTENT was the same. River City Ransom for the Nitendo was about GANG WARS. I never joined a gang other then the USMC. I was a honor student--ETC. To get to the point the rating system is all fine & dandy, if PARENTS & ADULTS use it. I listened to hvy metal & hardcore rap. When I was a teen. The ratings only made it harder to get what I wanted. I still got them. In fact because of the ratings I wanted the M music or games more. Kids allways want what they can't have, so do adults! One of the major problems with America are too many laws. In Europe where alcohol & many taboo drugs are legal there is less crime. America has more ppl in jails then any country in the world. Too many laws.

Man! I have played GTA games sence I was 10! Im 16 going on 17 and You will never see me out side shooting cops or random people just for the fun of it. You don't see me stealling cars and doing drugs. People blame video games for all of these bad things only when it is truley the persons fualt. Its like saying "I didn't kill him! The GUN did.", Or "The pen made that mistake, not me!"

psn id: gingo.... i really dont see why parents aren't the ones getting the blame for letting their kids play it, Rockstar make this game to get as much money as possible so they dont really care who plays it so its up to the parents to decide if their child is old enough not to be affected by the content
