FFXIII 360 exhibits storage limitations, PS3 not affected

According to Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase, the Xbox 360 version of the eagerly awaited RPG may only include English voiceovers due to its limited storage capacity per disc – the PlayStation 3 release, however, is not affected by such constraints thanks to Blu-ray.
"Obviously, when we talk about XIII it's for PS3 and Xbox – with PS3 being on Blu ray there would be enough memory, but on Xbox probably not," said Kitase. "At the moment we're thinking of releasing the voice in English only. Are there many people who would like to play with Japanese voices?"
Could this be an early indication of future limitations on the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII? Should this be the case, let’s just hope nothing affects the content of the PS3 release. Regardless, there’s always the exclusive Final Fantasy Versus XIII to look forward to.

i can't say i didn't see that coming but it's not too big of a deal, at least to me it wouldn't be, but this could mean further limitations and anything past voiceovers in terms of limitations would suck.

so ps3 wont get the japanese voiceovers because of xbox360?
when will they stop being stupid? why cant they release the japanese track just for ps3 then? i hope they do it, i was looking forward to it.
P.S: the deal with japanese voiceovers is that they are always better.

Lost Oddyessey had 5 yes 5 language tracks (English Japanese and 3 EU also), since the PS3 version isn't finished yet let alone the 360 i doubt they even know how much GB it will be. You have to remember Sound takes up ALOT of space and they didnt put dual audio in MGS4 either.

Yeah, sure.
If that was true then i would be enjoying FF XIII sooner.
@ 3
Did you know?, Japanese voice actors are more expressive than the low budget american voice actors.
Just take a look at the latest S-E works: SO IV or Infinite Undiscovery
Japanese voice acting tracks in JRPG are much appreciated

@ Aizen,
comparing LO to FFXIII now are we? I don't think it works like that logically. LO was planned for the 360 from the start where FFXIII suppoesedly isn't. I am glad they started looking into this stuff because I would hate to wait longer than the usual 6 month turnaround time for the game.

Hopefully this is the only limitation, I don't want the actual game outside of languages affected just because of the Xbox 360 alone.
That would piss me off.

now im not a big ff fan but why is this game comeing out for the xbox? if a system doesnt have enough memory for game why put it on there? ff is a japan based game and should only come out for its system, to me and this maybe true or not but is seems there sellin out because they want for money.
but like i said im not a big ff fan, i think its a stupid game with no skill needed to play but if your a true ff fan and u have an xbox then u shouldnt of bought a xbox and u shouldnt get to play this game. but thats just imo, peace.

A lot of people like to have the original Japanese voiceovers because generally the English voiceacting is poor and doesn't fit with the animations. I think it would be a great added bonus to have with the PS3 version. If they've got the space for it then why not make it an option.

@13 RPGs take plenty of skill to play. It's all about quick decision making. If you make a poor decision under the gun (which with most FF games, it's an active time battle meaning that the enemy does not wait for you to make your choices), you may very well end up failing. There's a lot of strategy involved. What games require skill to play? FPS? Sports? Guitar Hero/Rock Band? Every game requires a certain level of skill.
Yes, Square Enix wants the money from xbox360 sales. Video Games are a big business. You can't always play the loyalty game and expect your company to stay afloat. I love the Square (and Enix) franchises, and if doing a multiplatform development for one of their biggest franchises is what they need to do to stay alive, so be it. I hope it sells well on 360, but I'll be getting it for my PS3.

lol at the tracks debate, how about they hire pro english cast to do the voice overs, whats the point of having them say stuff if you wont be able to understand what they say apart from reading it.
I kinda agree though that the western releases, it seems like the characters are reading off a script.
To be honest, if the character looks (sorry for generalisation) white, they should speak in their own language and if they look yellow they should do so accordingly.
Tekken 5 was cool when they did that but it makes you wonder how they communicate with each other lol.
Also this is a huge sidetrack but the biohazard series, their voice acting seemed to be spot on for me, if ff13 can deliver that kinda quality (and im assuming itll surpass it) itll be great.

i smell another $50 million on the horizon :)
Edit: come to think of it, didnt MGS4 face similar problems?? even with the blu-ray? this raises a few personal questions for myself to contemplate ;)

he said per disc, does that mean that they will be utilizing more than one disc for the 360`s version?however they already have mentioned that the game will be using 100% of ps3`s power.that means that the 360`s version quality will be 50% lower than ps3`s version, but as he said let`s wish that doesnt affect the ps3`s version like what happened in GTA IV

SE said that they will start making the 360 version after they finished the PS3 version ... so that means PS3 1st then 360 .... so porting the game from a 50 GB blue Ray to DVD ..... means at least 5 dual layer DVDs ... means ALOT of things will be sacrificed & the japanese voices is the last thing 360 fans should warry about ..................bottom line 360 version will be like the PS3 vesion of Fallout 3 :)

when playing video games i rather listen than read but if they gonna include japanese voice with subtitle y do the english voiceover at all. they should just release the subtitle meaning ps3 outside of japan would get it much quicker instead of waiting foreva.

For those againised the dule audio option for the PS3, for those of us who can understand japanise, we get more enjoyment out of it as we dont have to deal with a sanatised english script, we get the orignal japanise dialect that hasnt been passed through american church and political correctness filters. (and if you dont belive me try looking up stuff reguarding old square games like xenogears and how badly they got mangled) admitedly most argue just buy the jpn version of the game, but i have every FF game that has come out in PAL in PAL, so i want it for collection reasons, and if theres room on this disk then why not, it wont change the production costs, and it might generate a few extra sales, no loss there.

This is not a surprise we should expect to see more space constants with the 360 version. I wouldn’t be surprise to see FFXIII come on 5 DVDs for the 360 version lol. As long as the PS3 version does not suffer because of the 360s limitations I will be a happy person. Microsoft paid a lot of money to have FFXIII on the 360 I hope their version is worth it.

We all saw some sort of limitation coming for the 360. Its no big deal unless the game in & of itself is affected, shich I doubt very much it will be.
As for dubbed or Subbed....I prefer subbed in most cases due to the pathetic dubbing in many many anime & live action films, not to mention the script changes for syncing which can completely screw around with the small inflections & subtleties in many interactions of the characters.
But thats not to say there are not some very good dubs out there. Code Geass is a prime example of a good dub...Akira is a great example of a pathetic Dub.
But back on topic...old news & not a big deal for the most part.

The bigger issue here is that FFXIII developers are forced to make one of two things happen: either they scale back some of their ideas so that the PS3 & 360 versions are equal, or they make significant sacrifices for the 360 version (and alienate some of the user base that they are trying to appeal to).
Regardless, the fact that they sold out to Microsoft has always meant that sacrifices would be made to this game. Not the least of which is the fact that it looks like a western RPG.

i'm not supprised in the least, but is it really fair to limit the PS3 version of the game because the xbox cant hack it? i think not. in my opionion its a huge mistake for them to be developing the game on xbox to begin with, it should have been a PS3 exclusive from the start.

I can't believe he said
"Are there many people who would like to play with Japanese voices?"
Obviously they don't know how crappy the English dubs are.
If possible I will play with the Japanesse language on and read subtitles.

lol they should of known this was going to happen. look at the old ps1 FF's they could be multiple discs because of blu ray not being invented yet so what would make the xbox different. i am just so happy that micro$oft spent all that money to get a copy of FF and they are going to how inferior their machine is when stacked against the ps3 in a truely labor intensive game. suck it xbox
