Guitar Hero not dead, is ‘on hiatus,’ says Activision

Publishing behemoth Activision’s revealed that the Guitar Hero series hasn’t permanently been shelved – rather, the venerable music simulation franchise is merely on hiatus.

Speaking to GI.biz, Dan Winters, Activision’s head of developer relations, commented, "Actually, just to clarify, we’re just putting Guitar Hero on hiatus, we’re not ending it.”

"We’re releasing products out of the vault – we’ll continue to sustain the channel, the brand won’t go away. We’re just not making a new one for next year, that’s all,” he added.

Activision announced earlier this year that it had disbanded its Guitar Hero business unit, and as a result had canned development of 2011’s entry in the series.

Until now, it remained ambiguous as to whether or not the franchise would make a comeback at some point in the future. Going by Winters’ comments, however, it seems we haven’t seen the last of the once lucrative IP.
