Hideo Kojima feeling the pressure to continue MGS

Metal Gear Solid head honcho Hideo Kojima has admitted the pressure is piling on him to churn yet another installment in the critically acclaimed stealth-action franchise.
Speaking to Develop, Kojima said that “there’s absolutely pressure” to continue the venerable series, despite having concluded protagonist Solid Snake’s part in the saga with MGS4.
“Maybe if I quit Konami that pressure might be a bit better,” said Kojima, adding, “but since Konami handles the business side of our operations, yeah, there’s definitely a demand continue a series as successful as Metal Gear.”
Fortunately, the celebrated developer isn’t quite ready to retire from working on big budget titles: “Someone asked me earlier if I’d consider making a smaller game now that I’ve finished a project as massive as Metal Gear Solid 4,” he said.
“My answer is that, personally, I’d love to work on a smaller project. But, thinking about the time I have left to survive, I’d rather spend that time working on bigger projects.”
“I have a role to create new things, using the latest technology, that hasn’t been seen before,” he enthused. “And I’m pretty happy with that role.”
A formal announcement on Kojima Productions’ next project is expected to show up at E3 next month.

Well, as much as we would all love the MGS franchise to continue, Im sure Im not the only one who feels we were given a great end to a great series with MGS4, if Mr.Kojima decided to end the franchise.
Mr.Kojima is a very creative person and boxing him into one franchise will limit what he can create. I would love to see what other stories/games his imagination can come up with. And from what he states, it would appear that its Konami piling on the pressure to continue for the financial benefits, although the normal pressure from fans is also there. Maybe he should leave Konami & start other things....
Anyhow, best of luck to him in his choices & I hope they are the right ones for him & his games. :)
@Spotted
Thats a great idea...something I was hoping for when MGS4 was announced to be the last. A spin-off tactical shooter in either FPS or the modes MGS4 has at least.

Time left to survive? Was Kojima exposed to FOXDIE or something? You're not fooling anyone man, you'll be working on new MGS till the day you die. And I will buy every one so get back to the lab son !

Kojima will always be linked to MGS and I think he realizes that. He doesn't have to let his job get old just becuase he must frequently make games with the title of Metal Gear. It's up to him to redefine and add new dimensions to the franchize. It never has to get old.

I think I understand the pressure he's getting. I mean, I wouldn't like to spend more years making another game of the same series. It might be boring for me and feel the need of something new, something fresh. I think Kojima-san should make a new differnt game other than MGS. Actually, I've had enough of MGS as it is and MGS4 is the way to complete the series. I want a new fresh story game and Kojima-san has all the tools and his skillful mastermind of making stories.

I'm kinda hoping he doesn't make another just because people want it.
I'd rather he make the game because he wants to so that it'll be comparable to the others. That's what Flight of the Conchords did, they found it too difficult to write 2-3 solid songs per episode so they decided to stop at season 2 rather than force out low quality songs.

He doesn't want to do the same thing OVER AND OVER and i don't blame him, Konami better quit pushing kojima he would have no problem finding somewhere else to go. That guy deserves total creative freedom of what ever he wants to do. Im all for another MGS but i want to see something else for now, Kojima has an amazing imagination and a knack for creativity i want to see something besides MGS.

Me and a friend of mine actually suspected that that was what Kojima was planning on doing, as I was playing through 4. I changed my mind toward the end of the game though, I'd say at this point Raiden is a more likely candidate, but I would like to see what they could do with Akiba's character to try and win over a fanbase.

i hate to blaspheme but Jesus! he does this every single time now! "i wont make another one lulz" and then after he is finished with it he says "well, i might do" and then people get all up in arms 2 years later when it gets announced. no offence to the guy, i love the metal gear series but just say it how it is bro! yes, we know MGS4 was snake's last game and so why not end the series with him and put it to rest!? i know it sells fairly well and there is certain brand recognition but get some new material man. i've actually started to get tired of all the "haha snake smokes" jokes that get thrown around in the series. 4 was a great kickback to the older games and a good end to the story, no matter how convoluted.... just do something different Koj. head up his own a**

Poor Kojima. The guy works his *ss off hardcore and his work never seems to end. It's his fault for creating the monster that is MGS, and in turn creating ravenous fans who can't get enough MGS.
He really should Direct the 5th MGS, but this time take some long-time MGS staffers under his wing and mentor them, if you will, so that they can see what he does throughout the entire process of creating an MGS game. That way he can pass the torch to them and finally retire.
