Leaked: Dark Obiwan character art for Battlefront III

Earlier today we reported on leaked footage for Battlefront 3, offering readers a glance at what Free Radical had in development before closing it's doors. Further investigation of the footage has revealed what appears to be a surprising plot twist in the game, with Kotaku reporting a Sith, perhaps even a hoodless Palpatine, telling "Kenobi" to "stick to the plan" about four minutes and 55 seconds into the video.

What does it mean? Well, according to leaked concept art that hit our mailboxes this morning, it appears Free Radical had plans for a dark twist on Obiwan Kenobi. An old man, gnarled by the corruption of the dark side, and living in the swamps of Dagobah.

Also, according to the same tipster, the technology that allows players to fly from ground to orbit will be staying with Free Radical as the game has now moved to new developers.

"It's my understanding that the game's been passed to a new developer, but the tech that allowed you to fly from the ground, to air, to orbit, to space dies with Free Radical's involvement," he said. "The new developer will be making it a cutscene every time you want to transition from ground to space."

Apparently the tech would have allowed players complete freedom in the battlefield.

Interesting ideas, and really a shame that Free Radical had to shut down. Hopefully the new developer will bring some of the same ideas to the storyline and gameplay mechanics. Stay tuned for more information.

     That kind of sucks, i thought it was neat that you could fly from the ground into space.  Now it seems to only be a cutscene with the new developers?

    suddenly the game sounds terrible because they're going to use a cutscene which you have no control over instead of actually being able to fly into space hopefully it will be too small to notice

    laaaamee, the coolness factor of this game just got cut in half, man free radical are bastards, why not share something if your going to shut down anyways. I was really looking forward to this, now i'm not so sure.

    maybe the new devs were the ones that made the decision to put a cutscene there, what would free radical gain from keeping the tech back?

    Why can't Free Radical give the technology to this new developer? It sounds amazing, seemless battle, no load screens. If only...

    I was really excited about the ground to space thing. I don't like the fact that it will be a cut scene. That ruins the game for me.

    That makes NO logical sense within the Star Wars storyline.

    I think this is what would have happened had Obi Wan killed Anakin in anger after their first duel and joined the Emperor who arrived shortly after. Just a theory anyway.

    Once the administrators were brought in, then all assets, including IPR/proprietory tech will have been ringfenced to pay off creditors.  If the new dev wanted the tech they should have bought it.  It's just the way it works unfortunately.

    why just make battlefront 3 just like battlefront 2 choosing where you want to move with space battles but online insteadwhich would be great plus obiwan is suppost to be good its pointless a charicter that you should change for a laugh would be dark yoda

    it really is a shame that FR is going under bc this whole concept of free roam sounds super awesome nd that dark Obiwan looks sick nasty
