Level 5 starts countdown, promises "shocking" news

This is a bit of a minor story, but it could blossom into something bigger. Celebrated indie JRPG developer Level 5 has just launched a countdown site for an upcoming press conference, Vision 2008, which takes place on September 28.

Little is known of what to expect, but the developer recently ran an ad in Japanese gaming Bible Famitsu (translated by Gamekyo) emblazoned with the following: "A game revolution is beginning […] Wait for shocking announcements from Level-5!"

Level 5 enjoys a close relationship with Sony -- the developer's credits include the acclaimed Dark Cloud series, Rogue Galaxy and Dragon Quest VIII for PlayStation 2 -- so it's possible (even probable) that those "shocking announcements" might refer to new PlayStation projects. Is Dark Cloud 3 too much to hope for? Or Jeanne D'Arc 2, perhaps?

Keep your eyes and ears peeled on the September 28.

    I would love to get a really good RPG on the PS3. Hope this is something that we can expect outside of Japan (but not outside the Playstation world ;)

    Moving development to the Xbox 360 does indeed look likely - seeing as they said it would be 'shocking'. Microsoft has aproached every big Sony exclusive developer so far and gotten many developers to go multi-platform. Sony needs to step up the bribery big time here to keep their momentum.

    i really hope its a REAL Dragon Quest game. i still remember SE saying last year that 2008 would be the year of the true dragon quest or something like that.

    A trailer will be released depicting the inevitable X360 announcement... destroying PS3-RPG dreams everywhere in the process >.< I do hope it concerns Dark Cloud 3 or a release date for White Knight Story.

    omfg, think about it, Dark Cloud 3 + PS3 exclusive = Guaranteed excellence in game play and graphics. Omg, i'm about to piss my pants thinking about it.

    WKC won't go multiplatform. Games listings have SCE as the publisher...you know, just to ease any fears.
