Megadeth: Bands who don't do games are "dinosaurs"

In a video blog entry on metal outfit Megadeth's official site, shaggy-haired frontman David Mustaine has described those who refuse to embrace new digital publishing methods as "old ****ing dinosaur bands."

Megadeth, naturally, considers itself pretty forward-thinking in this regard: its album Peace Sells...But Who’s Buying? has been released as Rock Band DLC.

"In fact, I think the advent of these new games and YouTube and MySpace and being able to upload your music — it's the way of the future," Mustaine declared. "These old ****ing dinosaur bands that don't want to put their music up on iTunes or have anything to do with you guys doing games with Rock Band and stuff like that. It's just stupid. You know, just have mercy on them [the old dinosaur bands] and feel sorry for them and buy our stuff instead."

Well quite. Mustaine also revealed that while Megadeth has no plans to release the much-loved Rust in Peace album for Rock Band, he would "like to talk to them [Harmonix] about that." We're sure Harmonix wouldn't mind talking about it either.

Megadeth is one of the few American Metal bands that still do pretty good music. So having more of them on music games like GH and Rock band is never a bad thing.

I dont understand why some older bands are so hard on games, its new way of making cash by letting ppl "virtualy" play their songs and enjoy them while at it. As for todays piracy ratios I only see this as an opportunity for them instead of a bad thing.

However I am more interested about that music game that is said to hold some heavier metal than these lousy rockband and Gh with their lousy track list that seems to forget the nordic countries fully, eventough the best modern metal come from northern europe :P

And I never heard him called David Mustaine, ever since he was the original guitarist for Metallica, he was always known as Dave Mustaine.  Come on PSU, I know not ALL of you are less than 20 years of age.

It's not just games, but digital distribution in general. It annoys me that I can't just download an AC/DC or Led Zepplin album on iTunes or Amazon. The only reason AC/DC finally put out music for Rock Band is because Harmonix/EA threw a ludicrous amount of money at them.

Mustaine is the most arrogant jerk in music.  He makes good music, but he talks way more than he makes good music.

    Megadeth!!! (one of favorites)

It can be rude, but its true!!!

if the music industry doesnt expand to other industries(like films and video games) they will certaintly lose their attention more and more.

to slow that process its needed to make some kinda ADS and thats why video games are important in the music industry.

How is what he said arrogant? He's saying bands should move along with the times, which they should. The only part I can see any bit of arrogance in is when he said buy our stuff instead.

It's not just money that these bands want though. It's rights, creative/presentational control, Wanting to know that their product is being represented in the best interest of the band and it's identity. I think that's one reason why Harmonix managed to gain access to the Beatles in a way no other company has, Not because they're giving in to technology but because the HMX guys just understand music and creators.
