Naughty Dog "not interested" in Uncharted-style wand game

Developer Naughty Dog has revealed that the firm has no intention of creating an Uncharted-style game for use with the PlayStation 3’s upcoming motion sensing peripheral.
Speaking with G4TV, co-founder Evan Wells commented, "We really don't have any interest in using the motion control to do a third-person action game. If we were going to make a motion controller game, we'd want to tackle it from the bottom up and make sure that we were designing the game around the motion control, the way the best Wii games are designed.”
Still, that’s not to say Wells dislikes the Wii – far from it. Apparently, the ubiquitous console is one of the most played platforms in the house, especially when it comes to Wii Sports.
"I'm not a Wii hater at all, in fact, it's probably one of my most played consoles in the house. I have a 3-year old son which might account for some of that [laughs], but Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort are some of the best experiences of this generation - honestly. They're immensely playable and competitive, and just great fun with a group of people in the same room,” he added.
Wells also reckons that a lot of PlayStation owners are closet Wii fans, and feels there is more than enough appeal for motion sensing shenanigans on a Sony platform:
“Yeah, I think the PlayStation audience is totally for it," he continued. "In fact, I bet you there are lot of closet Wii owners in the PlayStation community. If there is some really good software for that motion controller, I think it can be a big, big success."
How about you, PSU readers? Would you like to see motion technology incorporated in an Uncharted-style game? Be sure to let us know in the comments section below.

I don't think that these motion controllers(PS3/xbox) are going to be half as successful as there creators think think they're going to be.

no i don't. we don't need "wands" to make games fun. i have a wii. and it collects dust. i have no desire to play it because i hate the controller. even if it didn't have the wand, i wouldn't play the wii. but, a wand for the PS3? not sure i would want to use it anyway. i like my paddle controller better.

So when this wand comes out how long will it take for 3rd party companies to make good wand games? Sony will clearly bring out a few interesting things but like Nintendo's stuff we'll tire of it fairly quickly I think

I like the idea of the motion controller for the PS3, not really for games like Uncharted though.

When I concluded my week-long research for choosing a next-gen console a few years ago, my cons for the Wii were: Poor tech, no games.
I really loved the motion control idea, but thought it was executed really weak. Now with Sony giving it a go, hopefully it will work and yes I'm excited for it!
(As long as it doesn't completely replace the DualShock, that would be disastrous)

Hmm, I like how so many people are thinking alike. When I heard "closet Wii owner", the first thing that came to mind was a Wii in a closet. I was going to comment, but I see so many people have picked up on it before.
Regardless, I'm literally one of these closet Wii owners. I took my Wii on holiday over a year ago, never unpacked it when I got there, returned home, moved house, taking my Wii with me everywhere... still in its box. Never unpacked. And now, it's actually siting in my closet, boxed up. I'll use it one day. But damn, the PlayStation's just that good!
I love how Wells is thinking though He understands that the only games that work well with motion control are those designed, ground-up, specifically for it, with a supporting foundation, as it were. Converting an existing franchise to (support) motion control's just stupidity, and it doesn't surprise me that Naughty Dog are one of the few companies to see that. The main reason why I love the company isn't because of the great games they produce, but because of they way they think. They're intelligent people, and understand the games industry incredibly well. That's why they're able to produce such top quality games.
The best Wii games are the ones that are designed exclusively for the Wii, developed specifically for motion control. And some of them are pretty darn good. I do, however, like Wells' comment:
"Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort are some of the best experiences of this generation - honestly. They're immensely playable and competitive, and just great fun with a group of people in the same room."
Has he even played Uncharted? As my friend was saying the other day, Uncharted is one of the few games that can actually entertain people watching it almost as much as those playing it - and that's a key part in identifying a truly 'good' game!
Regardless, I love the way Naughty Dog are thinking, as this is undeniably why they're one of the best quality game developers in the world. I look forward to seeing how they do intend to adapt to this motion control technology, however.

No. Go away wand! Mommie i had a bad dream! What was it about son? I dreamt that ps3 and wii had a baby, and that was all that Sony sold anymore because of all the kiddies moms buying them and Sony said "Hmm" again just like it did before it killed the good ps3's and changed to the slim. Mommie is my 80 gig alright? Yes dear it's right here sleeping by your bed..... to be continued

Naughty Dog is probably the number 1 company that I respect out of all studios, Most of them hop on the fail boat trying to sell something without putting full effort into it, like most Wii titles... Building from ground up is really a great choice for them, and not just to add something useless to a game like motion control where it doesnt need it... Naughty Dog FTW!!

You guys are idiots.
PS3 motion controller = ports of wii games.
I may be able to play the umbrella chronicles and the few other good 3rd party wii games without buying a wii.

Good I like the controllers better. I don't wanna be playing with a wand moving my hand around and all that junk. I just like sitting on my *ss with the controller.

I'm glad Naughty Dog has no interest in motion controls. I think adding that will only harm the experience. I'm not even getting the wand or natal.

i dont feel this "wii-type controller" would appropriatly fit a game style like uncharted. i think this new controller is still a good idea, however, since it will open up opportunities for developers to make different types of games for the PS3 that fit well with the motion controller. A game like wii sports resort on PS3 with the best graphics on the market... now that would be sick

im no hardcore gamer...the last game i loved playing was Uncharted 2. Truly an amazing game, so no need to complicate things by introducing the wand into the game. ND is right, to rather create a great game from the ground up that incorporates the wand naturally.
i love the Wii. I think its cool. Wii Resort kicks a.s.s, cuz everyone in my family can play with it. It's fun and VERY easy to get the hang of it. Its more family oriented machine. I think most PS3 owners play alone in a room, but connected to the internet to play multiplayer.
