Epic Games Vice President, Mark Rein, has stated that PlayStation 3 owners will have benefited greatly from the Xbox 360 title Gears of War, due to the developer's experience of already releasing a game utilizing the Unreal Engine 3.
Speaking with consumer website Eurogamer, Rein stated, “PlayStation 3 is very much benefiting from Gears of War. That sounds silly, but it's very much benefiting from Gears of War.”
Rein observed that the company have made significant progress with PS3 architecture compared to the same time last year with Microsoft's console, largely due to the efforts involved with developing the Unreal Engine 3-ready Xbox 360 action blaster.
"We're a little ahead on PlayStation 3 compared to where we were at this time on Xbox 360, and what I mean by that is our code and our level of completeness, and that's because we have shipped a game with Unreal Engine 3 already”, said Rein.
He also noted that the forthcoming Unreal Tournament 3 is likely to push the boundaries of the Unreal Engine 3 eve more so than Gears of War, adding, "When you see UT, this pushes the engine a lot harder than Gears of War did. I know it sounds preposterous because of how great Gears of War is, but we're pushing this up another notch. I'm very proud of that, and I think it's good for us and it's good for our licensees.”
Unreal Tournament 3 is slated for release on PlayStation 3 (and PC) later this year, with an Xbox 360 version due out in early 2008.

This game should rock.. I love the Unreal Tournament games.. they're different in the sense that they're a lot like Quake, and that they're not just your standard FPS -- its like one big deathmatch complete with crazy weapons and panels that throw you 100 feet in the air, etc. Awesome stuff.

I honestly liked Gears for about a week. The story and co-op were good, but the framerate killed it for me. The online would have been great if it werent for Xbox Live LAG

They should release Gears of War on PS3 - Just port it across so we have something why we wait for Unreal Tournament. From the looks of things a lot of you seem to have both Xbox 360 & PS3 consoles. I dont so its important that these games get ported across as quickly as possible. I cant be the only one with just the single console right???

I could care less about Gears of War. I just want UT3 to look better than GeOW so the 360 fanboys will shut their mouths.
