The rival exclusives, shimmering mascots to their respective platform, SCEA / Insomniac's Resistance 2 for PlayStation 3 and Microsoft / Epic Games' Gears of War 2 for the Xbox 360. With nothing yet confirmed, we can only speculate that according to recent rumors, Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2 will be releasing within a week or so of each other. This will pit these two monster exclusives head-to-head.

There have been a couple of updates to Gears of War 2's release date, first coming from Lester Speight, the voice behind Cole Train. Apparently when questioned about the release of the new title, Speight simply responded that the question should be posed to him again on November 16. The other rumor comes from Gamercenteronline, where they state Gears of War 2 will be releasing November 17 in Europe. Either way, it's sounding as if Gears of War will be seeing a mid-November release.
As for Resistance 2, the only thing official is that Sony plans to release the title this Fall. Rumors have speculated that the sequel will hit sometime early November, with both Gamespot and Gametap listing the title for a November 4 release. According to IGN, the title has been listed as a November release, and 1up.com suggests that Resistance 2 will hit November 15, one day before the supposed release of Gears of War 2.
The last time these two were pitted against one another was in the year 2006, once again released in November. Resistance: Fall of Man was released as a PlayStation 3 launch title November 14 and has since sold nearly 3 million copies. Where as Gears of War released November 7, selling a total of 5.2 million copies.
Now of course the Xbox 360 had a larger install base of about 4 million consoles when these titles were first shipped, so we'll see if things change this time around. Stay tuned to PSU.com for more details on the upcoming release of Resistance 2.

Although I perfer Resistance 2, I think that both of these large games will be great. However as for the sales and/or reviews of Resistance 2 they'll be near that of Gears Of War 2 I can bet since Metal Gear Solid 4 is expected to boost the userbase of PlayStation 3 up a million plus or so.

Yes ive got a ps3 and 360 and 2 Wii, got resistance and gears of war, i personaly think gears of war has better graphics than resistance, and i dont know why theres a battle between them both. if they were coming out on the same console at the same time i can understand why, but 360 owners dont care about resistance and ps3 owners wont lose sleep about 360 owners getting gears 2. and if you will be affected by it then you need therapy.

I don't know what's the problem, if you've got a 360 you'll buy gow2 instead of rfom2, but if you own a ps3 thing's will be the other way round, resistance had an extremly strong sales rate for a launch title whilst gow came out after the 360 had a good installed base. I'll definately pick rfom2 up on day one!

I own both Resistance and Gears of War. While they're both good games Resistance far exceeded my expectations and Gears didn't meet my expectations. Gears 2 so far just looks like more of the same, but Resistance 2's multiplayer looks very innovative and intriguing so I'm looking forward to that a lot more.

Well... pitting them against each other... when they're both exclusive to other consoles? I suppose it might be logical but still, two different playing games with different fanbases imo. BTW I'll be getting R2 - an won't be playing GoW2 till it hits the PC.

Gears will be the biggest selling title for the 360 this year. Many of their sites are saying so. Some are already claiming game of the year. So will it surprise me that it outsells Resistance 2? Not at all. With a larger install base and the only really decent game coming for the 360 since Halo 3, everyone who owns a 360 will be looking for this game. On the other hand, with so many great titles coming out for the PS3, resistance 2 although will sell good, won't be on everyones most wanted list. Especially with games like Little Big Planet, Motorstorm 2 and Bioshock coming out in October. Not to take away from Gears, I am sure it will be good.

I'll be getting both of these magnificent games. Depending on how the install base is for The PS3, i'd say Gears will sell more, but hopefully I'm wrong. I'd love to see Resistance sell more than Gears.

Both will be great im sure but as far as developers go Insomniac is king so R2 has my vote.
The notorious MS hype machine will see to it that Gears sells more than R2. MS tells people that this game is the greatest thing since the last greatest thing and people believe it.
Gears is good but the biggest thing about it is multiplayer and UT3 has it beat in that department. Im a 3rd person die hard fan and dont find Gears to be as good as MS says it is.
Id actually love to see what MS had to say about if it were PS3 exclusive.

I prefered Gears over Resistance, because the Gameplay was something new to me whereas Resistance was "just another" shooter.
But, there is one thing i don't like about both of these games: The Story. In Resistance there aren't even real cutscenes and somehow the game lacked atmosphere at some points. I really liked the scenario but the story itself was rather ... lame. Cutscenes as well as ingame "interactive Cutscenes" (like the ones in Half Life 2 ... it should be state of the art for this gen games) would have greatly improved the quality of the game. At least the gameplay itself was good.
Gears had a more acceptable story but still not a very good one and the presentation sucked too (too few cutscenes, no interactive cutscenes (don't know what they are called), no depth to the characters, ...). Again, if it wasn't the gameplay the game would have sucked bad times.
So, i really do hope that the story of both games will greatly improve in their sequels ... right now i admit that both games are somewhat good but massively overrated.

I have a PS3 and a 360, ive played and beat both, i myself am going to get both but if i had to choose just one i would pick R2, my logic is this, those who played both games know that in Gears of War, you were fighting about 5 guys MAX at any time, sure the graphics were ber detailed but the levels were also very narrow and closed in, very linear. In Resistance, there was so much going on it was crazy, you would be fighting 25 guys at one time with another 8 people on your side, plus the environment was much bigger in R2, i would say Tech wise Resistance 1 curb stomps gears but Graphics and a few game mechanics wise gears take it.

Resistance: Fall of Micro$oft coming soon!!! There's only one winner and thats Resistance 2 because it a major Upgrade while Gears of çrap 2 has minor with new graphics (slightly better than the last) vehicles like on unreal tournament 3. What a pathetic overated game

i played gears over my cousin house and i own resistance. to me they are both fun games but gears beats resistance 1 in graphics. but with the way insomniac is doing i dont know if that will hold in there second installment. insomniac is one of the best developers and they are going to pull out all the stops for this triple a title and if it doesnt sell more than gears it will sell atleast just as much but you have to consider xbox 360 install base is bigger. even though that might not be the case when metal gear solid 4 comes out. i guess we will just have to see.

i own RFOM and have played GOW at my cousins' house. for me... GOW wasn't that good, but for RFOM... that was a GREAT game. the only difference i here people say about these 2 are the graphics. remember RFOM only used 10% of the PS3's power because they wanted to rush it so it would be a launch title. so now that they don't have to rush R2, the graphics should be much better taking away GOW's edge over it in that department. i think R2 definitely has the edge over GOW now because of the multiplayer. hey, why do people keep calling it RFOM2? it is probably not going to be "Fall of Man". i am definitely preordering R2!

I will be getting both of these games because I'm not some lame fanboy. They're both going to be great games. I do have to say I liked GOW better than Resistence though. I think Resistence was a good game, just not the blockbuster everyone was making it out to be. In my eyes it was just another FPS, and it didn't really do anything new(not that everygame has too, but still). GOW looked better, and I liked the cover/shoot system. I think Resistence 2 looks great though, and can't wait for the multiplayer.

I've had both systems since release and I can honestly say that Resistance one was looked at as a great game for the same reasons GRAW 1 was. It was the best game of the bunch, and compared to everything else (in the PS3's library at least) it blew the competition out of the water. At that time tho 360 had Rainbow Six and Gears of War, which to me were the more superior shooters (not in terms of graphics, i'm not easily impressed).
No need for a competition, but ultimately everybody WILL turn it into that. But as much as most of the people here will deny to their graves, PS3 owners want Gears of Wars 2 more badly than 360 owners want Resistance 2.

i hate to say this but I thank Gears of War 2 will sell better because the fact of 360 having a bigger install base right now it might not be after mgs4 we will have too wait and see on that one. I do know that resistance 2 will have better graphics and better game play but we will have to wait and see whats happeneds.

psn id: gingo.... the first resistance campaign definitely defeated the first GeOW campaign but i think GeOW took it in the multiplayer department, so if insomniac improves the multiplayer like it sounds they have and keep the epic campaign then i think resistance 2 could come out a winner here

I think that Gears Of War 2 may sell more in North America/US but with worldwide sales since PlayStation 3 sells more then Xbox 360, Resistance 2 may or has a chance of doing better in sales worldwide.
