Rumor: Final Fantasy VII coming to PS3 and PSN

A continuously revived rumor has been sparked to life once again, with new statements and speculation coming in from all over the net. This megaton rumor regards a potential remake of Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation 3.
To begin, we'll start with the 1up.com podcast interview with Square Enix's Shinji Hashimoto where he revealed that a major announcement will be made at the DKΣ3713 Square Enix Event on August 2nd.
"You can look forward to the upcoming invite-only fan event DKS3713 , where we'll have a major announcement that will shock the fans in attendance," said Hashimoto.
In addition, 1up's Shane Bettenhausen stated, "[The] Final Fantasy XIII on 360 announcement swung the ball towards Microsoft. At Square Enix's Japan event in two weeks, they will swing the ball back towards Sony."
Now you could say this doesn't have anything to do with Final Fantasy VII, but if you were to think of one title that would 'swing' favor back to the PlayStation 3 with a simple announcement, what comes to mind? Perhaps what have fans been dying for ever since the tech demo showcase at E3 2005? Final Fantasy VII.
The last incoming rumor comes from Playstationlifestyle.net. According to their inside source, not only will Final Fantasy VII (either a remake or related spin-off like Crisis Core) be revealed as a PlayStation 3 exclusive at Square Enix's DKΣ3713 event, but the classic PS1 original will be distributed through both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade at the end of the year.
After Square Enix's surprising announcement of Final Fantasy XIII going multiplatform, revealing a Final Fantasy VII title for the PS3 would definitely put love back in the hearts of the PS3-owning Square Enix fans. We're not too convinced by the validity of PlayStation Lifestyle's information however, but at the very least it's a topic to speculate on.
Until the DKΣ3713 event is upon us though, take all of this as purely rumor and speculation. That is, don't fall prey to the hype train that is sure to follow this story. If it's not destined to happen, it won't, and you shouldn't be dissappointed about that. If it is however, you should hear official confirmation in about two weeks time. Stay tuned.

the thing is squaren enix made the move to maxmise moeny from 13 why would they make 7 exclusive if they were will be prepared to make 13 multi format surely microsoft would buy 7 to, also when would 7 come out since the team is hard at work on 13 then versues 13?

I doubt FFVII will ever come to PS3 and if it does, it won't be exclusive either as Square-Enix is Microsoft's ***** now and their only objective anymore is to make as much money as possible while dealing with the devil. I'll go as far as to say that it'll become a x360 exclusive.

It amazed on PS1, and the original should definitely stay exclusive!!! And the remake better be PS3 exclusive!!!! It deserves it!

You guys are holding the entire "FFXIII going multi" to heart. Did you guys ever think that they needed more money for something like this to occur? Some of you are taking it personally and now nothing Square does seems right to you. Besides, Square is announcing a PS3 exclusive game, so Sqaure isn't as heartless as you want to believe. As for the article itself, I do believe it is FFVII because they also said the annoucement involved the FFVII Completion series and it will make fans extremely happy. But if its not FFVII, at least we're assured a PS3-exclusive game from Square that I'm sure will own beyond believe! And you may quote me on this.

This is good news if Xbox is not involved, but they are rumored to get FFVII on XBLA too, and this FFVII remake is only rumored to be a timed exclusive. ITS NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

The part about FFVII also going to the XBLA is made up by fanboys. SONY are the publishers of that particular game.

no one would give 2 shytz about ff13 on 360 if they make an anouncment about ffVII remake exclusively to the ps3 :) and just like a few peeps on here allready said "SONY published FFVII" not any one else....
hey does that mean that the same dude that dirested FFVII will direct the remake (if ther is one)??? if so,then back the fI_Ick off M$ cuz sony's bum rushing you azzh0l3s strait to oblivion. :)

I would jump for joy if the news included FFVII remake for the PS3 and FFVII as a DL on the PSN.
Funny tho, that the XIII announcement all of a sudden has people in the "Oh if it's PS3, it'll be 360 too" mind set - I'm looking at you Pinter.
But had it in the back of my mind that it'll prob be a release of the original as a downloadable via PSN and or Blu-Ray ver of AC coming soon. Something like that.

Ever since the FFVII Tech Demo way back when, there has been the annual plague of "FFVII Remake!!" rumors, especially when Square says they 'have a big announcement.' And guess what? Still no FFVII confirmation.
When/If Square announces it, then we can get hyped. Until then, give it a rest.

IMO 1 game exclusive to the ps3 wouldnt be enough because as of right now 360 is getting SO4(timed most likely) IU(exclusive) LR(timed,multi) FF13(multi)vs the ps3's FF13(multi) FFVS13(exclusive so far). S-E will have to announce at least 3 games to swing the ball back
then LR is being released on the 360 first while we wait till next year but the 360 and ps3 gets the NA version of FF13 at the same time?(i hear a cash register)
and they say they wanna reach a wider audience

Alright I'm gonna keep this nice and simple. Sony owns the publishing rights to FFVII so don't expect it to appear on Xbox live arcade if they decide to re-release the PS1 version through the PS store.
Also for the person who asked, FFVII was directed by Tetsuya Nomura, the same person who directed FFX and who is in charge of FF Versus XIII, which is still exclusive. Besides that Tetsuya Nomura already confirmed that he's working on another title that is a PS3 exclusive. Now for those thining about Kingdom Hearts 3, Tetsuya Nomura also had a lot to deal with the franchise so it could be that title.
For those who believe that Square-Enix is Microsoft's new "employee", forget it. Sure I was shocked and mad afterwards, yet it's a very high possibility that they needed the money, they are a business after all.
Lastly if an FFVII remake for the PS3 was made then SE wants the original team to make it and guess what all the key people are working on the three FFXIII titles so don't get your hopes up. Anyway sorry for the long post but I got tired of seeing many repeated thoughts.

We all know a FFVII remake is going to happen sometime. It is an obvious desicion for square. I just hope it remains exclusive. With the way things are going with square enix lately, it wouldn't come as a surprise if they release it for the 360 too. However, I doubt a possible remake is going to be announced soon

im kinda getting sick of all these ff7 rumours. I mean the game was success, there is no reason to republish it and risk having it messed up. Just be glad they aren't milking the game more then they have.

The news will be that they are indeed making an updated FF7 remake. However, I doubt it will be exclusive to PS3. But who cares really, just as long as square makes it, it will make everyone happy.

Unless some serious optimisation takes place FFVII won't be on the PSN...at least not in it's original form. The PS1 version doesn't run on the PS3 at the moment. Nor does FFVIII for that matter.
So unless square and sony have something big up their sleeves this isn't going to happen.

i just recently (like 2 hours ago) put in FFVII in my psx and wen the intro credits rolled it said this.. DIRECTOR:KITASE .. i 4got the first name but thats EXACTLY wut it says... go look 4 yourselves.
i thought nomura directed it.. if its inthe case that kitase DID in fact direct it,then you can bet your azz us ps3 users are once again fI_Ick3d by $E.

If Sony owns the publishing rights to FFVII-FFX then why is it rumored that FFVII will be released on XBL as well? There's probably a way around whatever rights Sony may have or had with those games.
SE's making a remake of FFVII and it will be multi/timed. Why else give xbox owners the original?
It's time we faced the facts: M$ bought into whatever games SE has/had planned for the PS3.

SE sony exclusive i rather see PARASITE EVE 3 than any ff game on ps3 PARASITE EVE 2 was way better than any ff game and who can forget the end boss battle in PARASITE EVE 1 just classic

it would not hurt to put it one XBox Live because sony will get the profit. FF7 was published by Sony and Sony has all rights to the game. I have my original copy and I just started back up on it. I would love for XBox live to get the original version for the simple fact that the remake will be better.
