Rumor: Leaked images show PS3 Facebook integration

The internet is abuzz regarding apparent leaked images from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, leading many to wonder if Sony is planning for a firmware update that would include Facebook integration. The images, spotted by ScrawlFX, showed a Facebook icon in the XMB.
More rumors about this possible future firmware update include a new photo viewing option and greater gamecard customization. Largely, the new customization may include color changes. The leaked images were allegedly pulled from PlayStation.com in the UK. As you can imagine, the images have been removed.
Sony has a strict policy (like pretty much every company) of not commenting on rumors, but we’ve asked if PlayStation 3 owners can expect Facebook integration.
For now, this is just a rumor, but not completely unbelievable.

So every update is "useless" if it doesn't include integrated chat? Is that what you're telling me?
Anyway, the real tragedy is the fact that they shouldn't have to update it for Facebook when we already have a web browser for the flippin' thing in the first place. If you want to use the word "useless", use it to describe the browser.

I wasn't too excited for Facebook and Twitter on Xbox live but they have been fantastic. This is good news for those only with a PS3. The best upgrade to either console (outside of Netflix) has been Last.FM on Xbox. That is what PS3 owners should be demanding, it's brilliant.

Facebook would be awesome as an app because it isn't that great on the browser... There are other websites that I would like to become apps... Youtube, Hulu, Deviantart (awesome source of PS3 wallpapers and other cool stuff), the Playstation Blog, etc. I'd love it if they did this personally.

WOW, I know people wont believe me if they even read this comment but I thought of this LITERALLY today. Its a little weird...literally today. I was like, PS3 should make an app to integrate facebook. And I am sure plenty of people have thought of this before, but I did it today.

"I don't use Facebook so it's stupid and it will fail" I'm so tired of reading comments like this on this site. Just because you are not personally interested in something doesn't mean others aren't and it won't be used. Believe it or not companies don't make decisions based on your individual personal opinion. Same dumb comments about HOME.

my assumption: Netflix 360, soon ps3 - Facebook 360, soon ps3 :)
lets just say the 360 is a guinea pig test subject... they put stuff on it first, then if it works just fine they move it to the ps3, because only the final and best products are eventually moved from 360 to ps3 imo :)

to all the people crying, saying why is sony copying xbox. facebook on ps3 was rumour before xbox got and also people are saying whats the point because you can go on facebook through the ps3 browser, if its the same as the old rumors it will send status updates to facebook when you are playing games or get trophie ...... etc
