Japanese publication V-Jump has got the scoop on the latest female character to join the ever-growing cast of Square's hotly anticipated Final Fantasy XIII -- Serah Farron.
Apparently, wide-eyed beauty Farron is the younger sister of central character Lightning, and is also engaged to fellow male compatriot, Snow. Now much else is known about Farron at this point, though you can check out the first images of her in action below.
Final Fantasy XIII is due out in Japan on December 17, with a western release scheduled for spring 2010.

I bet she pulls and Aries (FFVII) and dies/killed. One of the story twists.

@35 I'm sure they want to put as much emphasis on the game that's actually being released, so Versus is being downplayed at the moment. Good to know it'll be shown soon though Versus looks a bit darker and more gritty so I definitely interested. I hope it parallels real world situations like FF tactics did with religion.

I am sitting on the fence on whether to buy or not this game and this new character disencourages me to buy it. I was excited about the very high production values in this new iteration of the FF series but slowly my excitement has eroded until nothing short of a perfect 10 metascore will persuade me to buy it.
First of all, I do not like androgynous characters nor I am too thrilled about a female lead character. I know millions of men out there actually enjoy playing as female characters, but I ain't one o'em.
One of my favorite elements of FF VII (the best of the series) was the soundtrack, which was the brainchild of Nobu Uematsuo, who, unfortunately, is not the music composer for FF XIII.
Furthermore, after having watched the demo in its entirety, I can say categorically that the combat system isn't as exciting or simply as entertaining as that of games like DA: Origins. However, I admit that my opinion can still be overturned.
Essentially my beef with this game is mostly with its aestethics. Its color scheme is too bright and seems to shout out "fantasy". My favorite part of FF VIII was Midgar, for example. It is not that I shun color, Uncharted's lush jungle enviroments are some of the most beautiful graphics I have ever seen. But I do prefer a level of realism which is lacking in this game.
Anyway, even this I could overlook and even enjoy but the androgynous charcters and the now-revealed cheesy romance between characters is just too much for me to bear. Someone wondered if the romanctic relationship would be cheesy. Let me tell you, it WILL BE CHEESY in keeping with Japanese theatrics.
Enough said.
