Capcom and Sony Computer Entertainment Pictures have announced plans to produce a feature-length CGI movie based on the highly successful Biohazard (known as Resident Evil in the west) videogames franchise.

Titled Biohazard: Degeneration, the movie is currently scheduled for release some time in 2008, and will be the first full length CGI adaptation of the popular survival horror series (though a 19-minute feature presentation, Biohazard 4D, was previously release in Japan in 2000). Full details on the plot has yet to be revealed.
Biohazard first launched on the PlayStation in 1996, and has since gone on to accumulate more than 30 million sales worldwide. The latest instalment to hit a Sony platform, Biohazard 5, is slated for release on PlayStation 3 (as well as Xbox 360) in 2009.
The series has also enjoyed moderate success on the silver screen, having been adapted into a movie trilogy in 2002 with Paul W. S Anderson’s “Resident Evil”, and it subsequent sequels Resident Evil: Apocalypse in 2004 and Resident Evil: Extinction in 2007.
Stay tuned for full details on Biohazard: Degeneration as soon as they become available.

This is cool since how sony haves a movie segment with their company, also how original resident evil did good for starting out on the psx. So im happy to see that they are creating a cgi movie like how final fantasy 7 advent children was like. So this'll be very amazing of course its going to be on blu ray and itll be nice as well but this will not see the light of day on hd-dvd which is good.
If microsoft had like a movies division then everyone knows how that would be its like they would be totally new to it and since sonys brand is such a high calibur it would make sense that sony would be best with what game to film adaptation in the future. When i went to see saw iv i saw a trailer to some movie about a hacker shutting down the city and like tracking this woman and her family it was from sony pictures division looked absolutely nice it comes out january.

Everyone i know (plus me) have only referred is at Resident Evil and i don't think no one have heard of Biohazard..... Did i just write 3 lines of that...??!? Well CGI movies are usually cool :)

@muz
I still think that Sirits Within is the best games to movie adaptation to date.
All the Resident evil movies suck and Anderson did a poor job at directing them. Did you see how bad the nemesis looked in the second one? I've seen better costumes in a fancy dress shop. And the fight scene at the end was terrible. Sometimes I feel that a school play is more convincing than this.
I have every faith that a cgi version from capcom will be much better. If Capcom just redid every cutscene from all the games I would watch it (as long as the voice acting is good enough, remember RE1?) I would prefere it if every movie from a game was done in cgi, it would make more sense and would be prefered by the fanbase. The games use graphics and so should the movies, that way all the characters will be the same and they will have the same voice actors, also the moves and stunts don't look as cheesey when done in cgi. And if they are going to use cgi for most of the film then theres no point in having real life actors in it, you might as well do the rest in cgi.

The first resident evil was good and the second was not directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, it was directed by Alexander Witt, Paul was directin Alien Vs. Preditor at the time.

Thank god it's Sony that will make the movie, and not Microsoft. (Halo-TheMovie, anyone?) . FF:SpiritsWithin and FF7:AC are awesome movies, the best CGI experience so far. FF:SW probably bombed in USA because its story was too difficult to comprehend for US citizens.
Hopefully for the Biohazard movie they'll use some of the best motion-capture actors seen in the industry (FFXII comes in mind).
