Kazuo Hirai, president and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, has revealed that the platform holder intends to release its unnamed motion-sensing peripheral in spring 2010.
Known colloquially as the ‘wand’ the device was first unveiled back at E3 during Sony’s press conference, followed by a short demonstration. However, little else has been revealed on the project.
However, Hirai this week told The Times Online that the company will release the peripheral in spring of next year, backed by a strong software line-up.
“We are slating it for spring of next year,” he stated. “One of the things is that we just don't want to put out the controller. We need a great software that supports the controller at launch. It's something that we've been working on for the longest time.”
How do you feel about the wand, PSU readers? What would you like to see from it come spring 2010? Let us know in the comments section below.

This could epically fail or majorly succeed, it's all about the pricing

the wand looks pretty cool, and the tech demo they had a few months ago was nice aswell, this could go pretty far and would be good for party style games, hopefully they dont use it for almost everything like the wii coz the wii mote sucks so much.

@3
id say its more about the content. id glady pay $100-$150 if they can make nintendo published quality motion games but better.
if they start trying to mimic wii and target casual games and shovelware, im out.
gimmie a game like zelda, metroid prime, mario galaxy, but better, then another win for sony, and it MAY just may, push nintendo to tighten up their allowance of subpar games, both disc based and wiiware.

Call me a sucker but the tech demo already sold me on it. Hopefully I won't be wasting my money.

I think this will get some push-back from older gamers who have been button mashing their whole lives.
I'd rather them continue to develop awesome games with their current set of peripherals than shift momentum to the wand. Hopefully the wand won't detract from other awesome IP, but I highly doubt that. Tear.
I'll just hope that UC2, GOW3, Heavy Rain, and FFXIII will keep me busy until they work this out.

the spring part was known from E3...
surely it would have been better to focus on tghe fact he said it wont be releaseing wihtout quality software.
will be intersting to see what this quality software is that they have in development.

According to a recent OPM, the controller is rumoured to be called GEM - though obviously it's still early, and that may well change.

sounds good but that better represent no more than 25% of hardcore gamer games that we have 100% of now. and the price better not be out rageous.

I am extremely excited, I just wonder what kind of game it will be compatible with GoW III or CoD Modern Warfare II just imagine the possibilities. What would we do with modern technology, am also looking forward to Xbox's natal project it seems real promising.

@ 1 or to reaffirm some peoples doubts that it will actually launch in spring, the more sony harps on it the better chance it has of actually releasing in spring. Im extremely curious to see if the software kaz speaks of is little more than casual minigames, or if we get some full retail releases with the motion controller, only time will tell

In my opinion if you want this to succeed then you need to do two things.
1. Relase it with good games as mentioned by them.
2. Bundle it with EVERY PS3 sold from that point on and include one of the "killer" games.
If point 2 isn't done then this thing will have a tough time ahead.

i would love to see a cheap price unlike the DS3. hoping for it to be like $30 - $40 or a dual pack for like $70. i also hope they have lots of games. they could just port games from the Wii, sure they would look bad (crummy Wii) but most first games do and with the better motion sensing the game play would be fun and they could get tons of games and i would buy some. i just hope they dont over do it with the porting of games.

i think this controller has some serious potential as opposed to every other motion sensing controller ive ever seen (guncon, wiimote, sixaxis, natal, etc) but im still skeptical about motion sensing
also, i really dont want to have to buy like 4 new controllers, so if its expensive im gonna be pretty upset

I was really interested in this controller but I hear recent news that most first line games are being produced for only a single wand at a time. BUndles for this on release should be two wands and a PSEye, Two wands, and single wand packages. Dual wielding should be the main focus for developement
