UPDATE: We received an email from Sony regarding the PlayStation Thanks trademark. The comment states, “We have a long history of creating unique loyalty programs such as PlayStation Underground, which started with the original PlayStation and has evolved into the Gamer Advisory Panel. We continue to look for ways to expand this program and we are evaluating new naming conventions for this evolution, which is why we filed a trademark for PlayStation Thanks."

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: It appears Sony has filed a new trademark called “P.S. Thanks,” which is an “incentive rewards program geared toward quantifying, identifying and motivating top consumer base with the goal of promotion and sale of video game hardware and software.”
In non-legal terms, this sounds like a rewards program for PlayStation fans. We don’t have much more information to go on, but perhaps this will reward the true hardcore PS fan. We’ve asked for a comment from Sony and will let you know what they say about P.S. Thanks.

You can't use gamerscore to buy stuff. It's just a number beside your name. Different from Microsoft Points.

That would be cool to get incentives for buying stuff I'd already buy anyways. Maybe it would sway some gamers to get a PS3 version instead of an Xbox360 version though.

Maybe we would get credits towards buying things on the PS store with our Platinum trophies....becuase its easy to get most of other trophies , not so easy for plats (Hardcore Fans).

Hope this adds some value to trophies.. they would blow Gamerscore out the water. (Trophies already did.. bu hey, the more the better)
Xbox 360 fan: "I have 123466 gamerscore!"
*crickets*
Wii, PS3, PC gamer: "umm so whats the difference between 119458 and 123466? one rented a few more games and unlocked some more points?"
Wii, PS3, PC gamer: "It's just a worthless number. You can hardly tell the difference... ooo wow 4008 gamerscore more."
Wii, PS3, PC gamer: "Oh cool check it out he has 5 platinum trophies, 60gold, 90 silver, and 400 bronze and he could use them for discounts/items/psn games etc."
I tell you Achievements looks so worthless now. At least with trophies you have different types and you also level up your profile. A reward linked to trophies would make it all the more sweet.

Only reward i want is to pay a monthly fee and DL ulimited from the video store....... Or get net flix to sign up.... Netflix instant thing for only $10 a month totally beats out spending $4 a movie on the PSN..... just a thought...

@9: Linked trophies give you rewards in game on top of your shiny trophy. For instance, getting a trophy in Wolf3d gives you 1000$ ingame money for the upcoming Wolfenstein game.

I have argued with 360 owners that gamer score points could be redeemed for XBL marketplace points. And they said that wouldn't work. Now look, Sony is doing it. I don't own a PS3 but I can garentee you that if Sony is moving in the directions that I hope they are, I will buy one at the end of the year.

OMG! No they are not doing it! See post #25. The first article was written in a COMPLETELY irresponsible manner, now this guy is writing posts saying "Sony's doing it". I'm so glad the updated article is already out before you guys got totally out-of-hand.

Gamerscore bores me. I'd me satisfied the moment I could say that I have "Over 9000".
On topic, I have 9 PS3s, 3 Xbox 360s, 2 Nintendo Wiis, 5 PCs, 4 PSPs, and an errection.

This is awesome! Microsoft is too cheap to reward their ripped off gamers with anything. All I've heard is if you buy all 5 of the summer of arcade games on XBL you get a $10 bonus..... all the games are $15 except one which is $10. So you spend $70 and get $10 back? I'm glad I buy from SONY.
