Square Enix: FFXIII on 360 is not a "betrayal"

In an interview with Kikizo, Square Enix Corporate Director Shinji Hashimoto and Final Fantasy series Producer Yoshinori Kitase have responded to the furor among PlayStation 3 fans over the decision to bring Final Fantasy XIII to Xbox 360.
"I'd rather they not think of this as a "betrayal" or disappointment," commented Hashimoto. "It's not like we're cancelling or delaying the PS3 version at all! It's more of an added bonus for 360 fans. We won't be putting them at a disadvantage in any way."
One frequently voiced concern is that the game will be "diluted" in the process of bringing it to Microsoft's console, especially given the gap in storage capacity between Blu-ray disc and DVD. Kitase waved this aside, pointing out that PS3 is still the lead development platform.
"I think that maybe because it's going multiplatform that some fans are worried about the game's scope being reduced to fit onto both consoles," he said. "The fact is, the PS3 version is what's in development right now, and the team is working to specialize that version to the very best of the PS3's abilities."
"After that, we'll do the 360 port and optimize it to that particular hardware. There will be no decrease in quality as a result of the game appearing across two platforms."
"Blu-Ray's additional storage capacity doesn't matter as much as the strength of the hardware itself," added Hashimoto.
There's plenty more through the link, including details of the battle and party system.

God do i hate fu*k faces like this! Just admit you sold out and yes it will be diluted no matter which way you spin it. PLus how is it an added bonus for ps3 users that its on the 360 exactly? Thats not a bonus at all. A bonus would be 100 hrs of gameplay thanks to the blu ray thats a bonus. I counldnt care less if it was on the 360.

if you wanna talk about strength of the consoles themselves ps3 is leagues ahead of 360, countless devs have said this. You don't see games like resistance 2 that have over 50 enemies on screen at once all operating on their own AI with complex physics and amazing detail and lighting, PS3 is more powerful than the 360 this is undisputed fact. The fact is that you sold out, plain and simple, its not like you planned to go multiplat the day you started making it you took a huge check a week before E3, you didn't even have 360 devkits! Not only that there are a bunch of other rpgs that are exclusive to 360, you don't call that betrayal? and look those rpgs exclusive to 360 suck, they all average like a 6/10, you are a shadow of your former selves you decided to take money instead of your fanbase, you can't even make a quality product for the consumers you traded your former fanbase for.

I am curious about the validity. Are they confident they wont run into any issues while porting from the PS3? Are they really going to maximize potential on both hardwares? If the can do it in 6 months that would be interesting. I know fans will not be happy if they do not complete it by the time they finish localization pushing the US release ate even further.

I'm new and I just had to register because of this Bull****. many fans won't call it betrayal, they call it "BACKSTABBING". it was PlayStation fans that kept them going from FFVII all the way through XII here in the west. FF was just a niche franchise here in the west before VII
It's not like we're cancelling or delaying the PS3 version at all!
this is a load of BS. those jerks are delaying the PS3 version in NA and Europe so we're gonna have to wait quite a while for the 360 version to get done.

Not a betrayl NOT A BETRAYL. IF THIS IS NOT A BETRAYL THEN WHAT IS. MY FELLOW PLAYSTATION 3 OWNERS WE SHOULD NOT BELIVE THIS GARBAGE. DO NOT BUY FINAL FANTASY 13 I HAVE BOUGHT ALL OF FINAL FANTASY GAMES SINCE 7. THEY WERE PLAYSTATION EXCLUSIVES. WHAT IF THEY JUST UP AND SAID OH THE NEXT HALO WOULD BE ON THE PS3. XBOTS WOULD LOSE IT. SO I REPEAT DO NOT BUY FINAL FANTASY 13. SO FELLOW PLAYSTATION 3 OWNERS LISTEN TO MY WORDS AND DONT BUY 13, BUY VERSUS. DONT NOT BELEVIE THE WORDS THAT SQUARE SAYS THEY ARE IN IT FOR THE MONEY THEY COULD CARE LESS WHAT WE THOUGHT BECAUSE IF THEY DID IT WOULD STILL BE A PS3 EXCLUSIVE. WE NEED TO SEND A MESSAGE TO SQUARE IF THERE ARE A MILON PEOPLE THAT DONT BUY IT THEY WILL NEVER BETRAY US AGAIN. SO BUY VERSUS

@11 Oh yeah, lets have no PS3 owners purchase this title. That way Square enix see's that it sells 3 times as many copies on the 360, then squenix can forget developing for the ps3 all together. Who cares, it's going to be a good game regardless. You are THE description of idiot fanboy.

We PS3 owners gonna hv it anyway so no need to disapointment.
Usually when great hits(like as devil may cry , soul calibur , tekken) that go to multiplataform port they usualy go BAD comparing to the preview titles. But speaking abt FF it can be the opositive.
And we ill gonna hv FFXIII Versus also no need to be sad or mad.

Im thinking about the plus point, and the only thing i can think of (although im not good with game sales and dev cost numbers) is, SE fears they may not get enough sales from ps3 alone to cover the expensive development cost of FF13 (i seem to recall it costs s*** loads), so they may need help from 360 people from NA to cover their own ars*s, and to be able to push ff14 even further (and perhaps by then ps3 will have enuff units sold to make it exclusive, that's just a thought though don't start bashing!)

when they say its a ps3 only game and can only be done on the ps3 then port it to the 360 and delay its release to coincide with the 360 release then its a god dam betrayal.oh and u know they watered it down if its not multiple discs on the 360.so i will be expecting multi discs for the 360 if what he says is true.and we all know the 360is nowhere near can match the power of the ps3 so it cant reach full potential which is not fair to ps3 or ff fans. get a few idiots like guys above thinking its about fan boys.also people got a ps3 for its exclusive only capable on the ps3 games, not f**ing identical to the 360 games.which ff13 was touted as,what a let a down, they could of made ff14 multi plat and just kept there word for ff13.

Ultimately, exclusives determine which system to buy---how do people choose the right car for themselves?...because the car they choose will usually have features and benefits you cannot get with any other car---if the majority of games in the future are multiplatform...then MS and SONY might as well just merge their gaming departments and just make one gaming system.
What's the point of having a choice in gaming consoles if the games are the same on them.

all fanboy issues aside square has got to be pretty stupid when making the comment "blu-ray's additional storage capacity doesn't matter as much as the hardware", What the heck? are you serious? come on square while i agree hardware plays a factor into what type of game is made, to say bluray isnt more important is a grave understatement. Time will tell however rather we have a TRUE final fantasy game on our hands one thats either going to be 40-50 hrs of gameplay or 70-80+ ON ONE DISC. Notice a trend on xbox 360 jrpgs square??? most of them all require MULTIPLE DISC! so how is bluray not an important factor? if you can get 70 or more hours of gameplay on one disc w/o sacrificing quality?? i really hope they dont ruin this game because it has alot of potential based off of what little we know about lightning and snow, but for them to make a comment like the one concerning bluray leads me to believe that they will leave alot left on the table.... even though the claim they won't. So my question is Nomura, Nomura, where art thou Nomura?? ; ; hopefully working on FFXIII Versus.

Nomura is working on FF Versus XIII, so don't worry about that one going multi-plat, but back on subject.
$%#@ that we know that some things will have to be constartined to optimize it for both consoles so don;t even say that. Also, it's not betryal it backstabbing like someone else already said.

Guess we will have to pay for dlc a month or two after launch to get the extra content that may have been cut......hopefully thats not the situation.

I was never into FF.....but everytime when I thought about the exclusives that were about to come to the PS3 I mentioned FF as a quality game....than this happened....even if everything this guy says is true.....what about what has Sony done for Square Enix? FF was a game that was supposed to boost PS3 sales and now that's down the drain....I have nothing against the fact that people who own Xbox will be able to enjoy FF......but when that game was supposed to be one of the bigest games to boost the sales than that bothers me......it was a huge betrayal when you look at it that way

I'm really gonna buy this game but for the recent SE move to multiplat the game lost it magic to me. They're spend a 4 to 6 years developing FF13 and if this can be done on 360 for me they waste their time.
Obiously Square-Enix invest time to made Crystal Tools for 360 and for that reason alone this game can't unleash the PS3's true power because that time could help to optimize even more the engine for Sony's console.
They can say all he things they want but Final Fantasy XIII will be less than it could it be and also this is a f***k betrayal for all the true fans of Final Fantasy that bought with pride the Playstation 3. -

Eerrr. He really waved the questions off alright. "We're not betraying PS3 owners! We're just giving PS3 owners a little less to be proud of". Well that's a comfort. And what about the storage capacity.
"It doesn't matter. We can really utilize the PS3 blu-ray to the max, but it won't be a problem on 360 anyway".
Mr. Kikizo, say, is this game coming to the Gameboy Advanced aswell? I guess you could just port it over. No decrease in quality at all.

I really wouldn't mind this as much if we would get some games from them as well. Even if the games they have churned out recently have not been good, they still would sell ok due to the lack of RPG's on the PS3. Hopefully SE will spread some love to the ps3 this year as well. I'm really hoping for a kingdom hearts 3.

I don't know what to say about $E right about now....but I know for sure that their statement is pure BS. Now as for me thinking that $E has done me (and other PS fans) wrong I am going to tell you...they are just being true to who they are. $E has always been riding the money train. Which ever console has the most install base is the choice for $E. Why do you think it is still exclusive in Japan? PS fans have led themselves to believe that $E was loyal to Sony. And as much as it may hurt fanboy pride these $E is out to make money and a toothbrush engineer can tell you its best to go with the largest install base. Last Remenant is where my beef with $E lies....FF hasn't been FF since FF10.

If the game developers do not to take sides on which console to produce for...and produce for all consoles...then I guess it's ultimately up to both SONY and MS to shove as much extra stuff into their consoles...because the features of the console (such as Blu-ray, upgradable storage..etc..etc..) will be the only defining characterstic....maybe in the end this will be good, in that we'll be getting more product for the price.

The port is from the crystal tools development kit, so the port from the PC development environment should take no time at all since the 36* is just a custom PC. it's the dialog and voice localization that will take the most time in this.
I do understand what some people say about it. it's not that the game is being downgraded for the PS3 it's that because they still have the 36* in mind that they feel like it wont be allowed to become more than they think it would be. Add to that the "diluited" nature of it no longer being a special experience because people on a competing platform will have it too, there're no bragging rights connected to it anymore. That is mroe wy people feel betrayed and refuse to see it any other way.

Also they better not be lying about it not having any down sized in scope, I'll be so god damn pissed.

"It's not like we're cancelling or delaying the PS3 version at all!" didn't PSU cover an article where they said the PS3 had been pushed back because of the 360(i remember giving up on Square at that point). i hope Game Arts remakes Grandia though, i always loved that game over any of the FF ones. probably because i played it first :)

I think what they mean by "It's not like we're cancelling or delaying the PS3 version at all" is that it will be launching alongside the Xbox 360 version in the west i.e. no timed exclusivity. Nor will 360 development interfere with the PS3 version's launch in Japan, as Square Enix is tackling them one after the other.

the thing i don't get is, why can't they release the ps3 version 1st then the 360 like they always do for games like the last remenant?
besides i do think storage capacity doesn't matter, as long as the 360 users don't mind swapping discs every 10 hrs or so, im not too bothered, is just the size, nothing else
whereas hardware performance is something that might be affected -

no u have to understand what ff fan boys poin ov view because it is bullsh**t if you realli think about i mean how loyal were sont to s.e. ? and because ov sony they are big and come if it wasn;t for sony in the first place then they wouldn't be nothing and seeing ff on the 360 is like seeing HALO on the ps3 it jus doesn't work and s.e. are lyin its all about MONEY MAKING and another thing i want to poin out you have all these devs praising the ps3 well what the f**k is with s**t quality games onlii best looking and well made games are made by 1st party dev and sony's ppl such as resistance and rachet & clank and then u got naughty dog too, all other 3rd party devs are useless wasting our time makin horrible games and sayin "oh the ps3 is this and its that" come on its stupid i sometimes think why even 3rd parties bother no point!!! but sony are part to blame to because
1. PS3 COME OUT LATE
2. PS3 DEV KITS WERE GIVIN NT INTIME FOR 3RD PARTIES DEVS TO FULLY ULTILIZE THE MACHINE
3. BUSY WITH TRYING TO USE PS3 IN OTHER WAYS WHERE THEY SHOULD OV IN THE FIRST PLACE FOCUSED ON GAMING
4. MATCH MICROSOFT KEEPING THE TOP GAMES EXCLUSIVE LIKE DEVIL MAY CRY AND FF AND NOW TEKKEN 6
ITS KK TO BRING OUT NEW IP BUT YOU HAVE TO KEEP THE BEST AND THE CLASSICS EXCLUSIVES AND TO BE HONEST I WOULD'NT BE SUPRISED IF UNCHARTED. RACHET AND EVEN JAK & DAXTER ON THE 360
TEKKEN 6.. AM SHOCKED BUT SAME TIME AM LIKE I KNEW THIS WAS COMING
SONY ARE THE 1NS THAT NEED TO SORT THEM SELVES OUT
NOT S.E NOT CAPCOM NOT EA NOT NAMCO SONNNYYYY!!!!!! TOO BUSY TRYNA MAKE A PS3 AS A ENTERTAINMENT HOME SYSTEM
ITS A GAMING, AND I MEAN HARDCORE GAMING SYSTEM LIKE THE 360 IS CLASSED
AM PS3 FANBOY BUT I HAVE TO ADMIT 360 HAS DONE A GOD JOB OV GETTIN THE SO CALLED "PS3 EXCLUSIVES" ON TO THEIR SYSTEM AND ON TOP OV THAT THEY HAVE TURNED OUT TO PLAY AND RUN BETTER ON 360 THEN THE PS3
