A Christmas newsletter from Final Fantasy creator Square-Enix has confirmed that the company has nabbed publishing rights for both Disgaea 3 and Persona 4 in Europe.

According to the newsletter, Disgaea 3 is down for a vague 2009 release, while Persona 4 has been pencilled in for next spring. Prior to Square muscling in, Koei has been responsible for publishing both franchises in European territories.

Disgaea 3 is currently available in Japan and North America on PlayStation 3, while Persona 4 – a PlayStation 2 RPG offering from Atlus – will be released stateside tomorrow.

why does square have to do it? i mean, wasn't it eventually going there anyway? did NIS not have enough money or something?

NIS isnt really that large a company so they DO need help. Atlus used to publish everything for them in the US before Disgaea got big and put some money in their pockets.
