There is so much Modern Warfare 2 news to go over today that we figured we’d start this thread for you to find all the day’s news. Check back for updates.
Party Invite Patch Now Available
It appears the PlayStation 3 version of Modern Warfare 2 is finally working as it was intended. Infinity Ward released patch 1.03 today, a day earlier than expected. The patch is intended to fix the party system, essentially allowing players to invite friends for multiplayer sessions. The download is a mere 15MB and is now available.
PS3 Servers
The biggest complaint many PlayStation 3 owners have with MW2 is the problems with online play. We learned yesterday this issue was largely server based, so to remedy the problem, Infinity Ward has stabilized the online infrastructure. The third-party powered servers couldn’t handle the enormous demand with the launch of the game.
This update is server based and will allow you to go online to play multiplayer, as opposed to the party system. Many have reported problems with the party system, but it will be patched sometime Friday.
More Sales Figures
Yesterday we heard first day UK sales figures topped out at around 1.23 million units. According to a press released today by Activision, the combined first-day sales of Modern Warfare 2 in the UK and North America are estimated at $310 million (USD). Activision claims Modern Warfare 2 is the biggest launch in history across all forms of entertainment. It’s estimated that 4.7 million copies were sold in the first day across the UK and North America.
DLC on the Way
What do you announce days after the release of the top selling game? Downloadable content, of course. Infinity Ward’s Rob Bowling told MTV that we can expect DLC content before any work is done on a possible sequel. Of course, don’t think Modern Warfare 2 is the end, as Bowling said, “It doesn’t mean this is the end, but right now, you know, we’re continuing the story and we’re concluding some storylines, but anything’s possible.”

While this game is great, it's vastly overrated. The ign review, for example, gave the graphics a 10, the graphics are not THAT good and while the set pieces and the gameplay are great the story is horribly disconnected, i feel that had they spent another 6 months to flesh out the single player campaign it could have been a much deeper experience but as it is it feels like they simply took the main plot points/ set pieces from their storyboards and slapped them together.
It's like amazing things are happening in the game, shocking things, but you're not exactly sure why and the lack of cohesiveness leaves the plot twists feeling weak and with a distinct lack of gravity. So while it is entertaining it just isn't what it could have been as far as the single player campaign goes it had a lot of potential that ended up not being fully realized because of poor implementation and execution. They had the skeleton (the main plot points) but very little to no "connective tissue" and i feel the connective tissue (which would have definitely made the experience richer) would have added some worthwhile length to the game as well.
The multiplayer is as fun as ever.

FIRST!!!
haha
Yeah bought this yesteray, couldnt get online till late on in the nigh, but all day today, multiplayer has been perfect, not a single sight of lag or anything. no loss of connections, nowt.
well done on getting that fixed IW.
Still gutted about the shortness of SP, but I tend only to ever play them through once anyway.

@8 and the like. Are you saying that no more content can be released after launch? Are you really so retarded? They have a schedule. They released the game. If some ideas are there for content after release, let them work on it. Let those who want more, buy it. Simple. Think next time ;)

I've gotta give Activision and IW an F for this launch. Nearly two years of hype and they were unprepared for the launch of this game. The only thing they did right was deliver the game on time. There is no excuse for the lack of capable servers, the chinsy manual, the unfinished website and the patch problems.
There was too much hype for this game for such a big bag of drops. No doubt, the game is great, but the other drops still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

All of you ae dumb for support them, no online play the first day( xbox had no problems therebecause they play it at work) you will have to pay for dlc when it could have been on the disc in the first place, and you wont even get it the same time as xbox person. They sticking it to ya! Im telling you ( you should have thought about supporting your 1st party games, M.A.G is one of them. Alot better then cod. You paying all that extra money foor more maps when the game should have came with it.

@ 21
Do you only ever play exclusive/first party games?
Don't get me wrong I love them and they are some of the best games round but no FIFA, no COD, no anything thats on any other platform? hardly worth even buying a console if your going to have that attitude.
P.S. Most people will buy/ have bought more than just MW2 this year and in their gaming life.

I am not to sure I should have purchased this game. I have yet to play MP (internet is down at home) but the SP campaign wasn't as good as the previous one.

I don't have MW2 for many reasons, but it's not a dark day for gaming. ANY SUCCESSFUL GAME THAT'S NOT TARGETED TOWARDS CASUAL GAMERS IS A VICTORY FOR GAMING. COD games may be graphics-whore fests for people that hate tactical (teamwork) FPSs, but you have to be hardcore to play it, and IW just sent a message to the world about who really buys video games consistantly. I almost (just almost) want to get a copy just to help put an end to the casual gaming experiment the Nintendo introduced and that gave Wall Street a hard on.
The "money people" have been talking about how poorly the games industry is doing this year (translation: They just figured out that all the people that bought the Wii are NOT support the gaming industry month-to-month). Exhibit A (this guy doesn't get it, does he?)
http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2009/11/11/your-move-diehard-gamers.aspx
Anyway, how could ANYONE think that this is a dark day for gaming?

No a game thats going to change your life but it's dam good the online is solid (gameplay wise) apart from the server problems i have no issue with this game!
the single player was wayyyyy too short though £40 for me to finish it in 4 hours and 30 mins is alittle bit of a piss take!!
the MP will tide me over for a good while so i can some what forget the lack of longevity on the SP

Nearly finished the game on veteran...
Yes, the storyline is average, and the graphics, but its all about the multiplayer and trying your best to out-fox and and nail your fellow gamers!
Its a good distraction from your everyday 9 - 5 horse****!!!

dman that's messed up what IW did to y'all PS3 supporters how can IW let things like that happen. mainly the trophy issue that should have been a big red flag right there that's some thing that happen during game play. i guess Microsoft convince IW that nobody really wasn't going to MW2 on PS3.
but what i find crazy about y'all PS3 supporters MW2 have some serious problem but y'all still praise IW like they ship a perfect game. but when Killzone 2 ship it had nearly none of these problem but some people didn't like the controls cause they wasn't like t6here other fav. FPS. Kz2 was thrown under the bus faster then it came out.

Update fixed fa, the join session and invites go to the match/location under the person's name......which doesn't update meaning your game session is never gonna be valid, IW sayin it wasn't a problem with the code are lying, if you sign out then in to let it change you can join session alright, this proves it is something in the code

maybe Infinity ward would ship out a perfect game if they wern't on such a strict deadline. it's gonna be like a sports franchise now, consistent minor updates, change the players and add new moves and modes that should already be there. i might just wait for the next mw instead, lol. and in case you never heard, ALL negative reviews on amazon were taken down.....thats why the game sold alot. i never heard naughty dog bragging about how, there game is the best, its gonna sell a javaganillion copies, best seller ever, uber graphics, uber story.... should they have? no. because i already knew they would. they strive for perfection and thats what they did. the single player was the biggest problem in cod4, fun but short and only worth a rent. what do they do? shorten it some more. and they say hey "took feedback into account", well they took out martydom, so the the lowest common denominator just flew out the window O_G_H...... and back in the door in the form of "DEATH STREEKS" *facepalm*
