Uncharted censored in Japan

In a similar move to Resistance: Fall of Man, the Japanese release of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune has been heavily censored in the region, removing any blood from combat.

When played on a Japanese PS3, the game been censored so that when enemies are shot they do not bleed. Furthermore it is a hardware-related issue, meaning it will not matter which region the game has been purchased from, as it will still remain censored on a Japanese machine.

When Resistance: Fall of Man was launched in Japan it was also treated in a similar manner to Uncharted, but owners were able to find a way around it by simply downloading a US save file from the internet.

This simple fix does not work for Uncharted. Apparently, the game will not even recognize the file when copied over to the Japanese system, and when attempting to overwrite the Japanese save file with the US save file, the file will just become the corrupted

The Japanese system which this was tested on was a 60GB model with parental controls off and the game was a North American version of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

So..the land that spawns some of the bloodiest anime and some games I've ever got a chance tp witness (dismemberment and bodily explosions just to skim the surface) And they have the need to fo through a lot of rubbish just to censor some blood? I know it dosent really affect me or a large amount of people, but someone, PLEASE explain the logic in this?

First of all, People usually do BLEED when the get injured, through fists, bullets, whatever...that's pure reality - why would you censor that. And afterall therer are much more games that contain strong violence and gore, compared to Manhunt, Uncharted is a Birthday Party :/

Animes aside, look at some of the Japanese horror movies to come out in the last 10 years...some of the most grotesque stuff I've ever seen (Takishi Miike anyone?  Imprint was one of the most disgusting horror movies I've seen in a while...not that I'm complaining because I love that stuff, but this makes no sense), yet god forbid they see a little blood splatter in a Mature rated game...wow...I can't even believe I just read this.

You guys do know there is a no "fire arm" law in place in Japan? That could be the reason why they follow this rule with games. Not sure why anime gets a freeby though. >_>

hmmm...well with games like resident evil (Bio Hazard to them) coming from japan, this makes me wonder. the conclusion i came up with is that the rating system must work different. like blood is fine but not for the rating they want.like its a teen game but add blood and its equivalent to a M in the states.as japan seems less restrictive on game violence/nudity ect. they may just want to keep the rating low. just my opinion

Liberal? they censor their PORN, how liberal can they be. But they do have far more violent cartoons though. I suppose there's just a different set of rules in their culture that dont make as much sense here.

They're probably just trying to offer up a less violent game. While the Fist of the North Star movie was famous for it's gorey deaths the television version replaced the red blood with a white splash. So it's okay to show an exploding head as long as there's no blood and okay to have a 12 men on one girl bukake scene as long as you censor their groins

It shouldn't matter about the rating system, I have a Japanese PS3 because I live and work here, but frequently import games. If I import a game that has been appropriately rated in it's country of origin, I expect to play that game in it's original form, not a handicapped version because the domestic release has a different rating. It would be like importing a porn DVD from the US only to have my DVD player blur out the good stuff, it's totally crap.

They did something similar with RE:4, which is strange because hey developed RE:4 themselves.  They censored Leon's death sequences.

I guess they just look down upon realistic depictions of death and mutilation, but accept animated depictions.

Will Soldier of Fortune be banned in Japan? Or will they just censor the blood? If it is the latter, then I guess you could still decapitate soldier's limbs without seeing any blood!?! Cool, sort of!?!

Why not just change the color of the blood instead? Like, games such the Silent Hill series!

I thought japanese really liked their blood and gore, with all the gory animes they have,i don't understand why they would treat games differently.
