Universal puts BioShock film on hold

According to Variety, the forthcoming movie adaptation of BioShock has run into a bit of a pickle, with the project having been put on hold following Universal Pictures raised concerns over the film’s budget.

The film had already entered pre-production stages, though things have grind to a halt after Universal wasn’t too keen on the movie’s budget, reported to weigh in at a whopping $160 million.

“We were asked by Universal to move the film outside the U.S. to take advantage of a tax credit,” said director Gore Verbinski. “We are evaluating whether this is something we want to do. In the meantime, the film is in a holding pattern.”

Still, the good news is that Verbinski is obviously keen on the project – he turned down the opportunity to direct a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean flick in favour of having a crack at BioShock.

More as it breaks.

I think they should just put the $160 million into something else because thats alot of money being wasted.

I reckon this would make an awsome movie if done right.  My only question is will the main character save the little sisters or harvest them?

I think if they do this right then it can turn into very very popular movie that will allow Universal studio to make tons of money.

I really hope it turns out good.

and for the ending they should give "good" ending; the one that you save little sister so they can make bioshock 2 movie :)

Having it put on hold is miles better than rushing it through and ending up rubbish. I'd too like to see this great game being put into live action as the steampunk environment of Rapture is something that hasn't been done in a long while. All other SP works of fiction get shoveled under the hype of another Hollywood action/rom com flick anyway.

I hope they keep up the gristly horror element of the violent psychotic splicers and the inhuman little sisters as dumbing that down to a lame 12A rated movie would just ruin it.

I'm sure it would have taken the awesomeness of the game and changed the plot around so much it would have sucked, so I suppose this is sort of a good thing.
