Valkyria Chronicles left behind in busy November line-up

November’s crowded holiday line-up sadly proved a detriment to sales of SEGA’s wonderfully crafted SRPG Valkyria Chronicles, with the game failing to crack the top ten game SKUs last month in North America.
The title managed to shift just 33,000 units for the month of November – an underwhelming performance by anyone’s standards, we think you’ll agree. The game hit Japanese retailers back in April, turning in a solid performance in its first week, shifting 77,000 copies.
Despite its obvious charms, it is perhaps unsurprising the game failed to sail commercially, given its competition with heavy hitters such as Call of Duty: World at War, Gears of War 2 and Resistance 2, where a SPRG of its type is likely to get lost in the frenzy.
Check out our review of the game here.

I´ve read the review, thought that this is a must buy for me and went on a day-long cruise around town, just to find it.....? Poor sales? Well no commercials, no hype and no games in the shop...a receipe for disaster! btw found the game eventually and bought it, one of my favourite games ever!

I knew all that crying for RPG's was BS. You kids don't play those anymore. Sure, there are some diehards, but the popularity of the RPG (especially the JRPG) In NORTH AMERICA is back down to the pre Final Fantasy 7 days of my youth (which some of you weren't around for). Just so you know, NA gamers traditionally don't like RPG's. Please don't bother refuting this just because you and your friends like them, the proof is in the pudding. Kids love shooters (for some reason).

the problem is obviously that it's not filled with super angry marines and aliens that gush gallons of blood in gruesome death on gritty Bloom covered battle fields. Maybe if they changed it to being a Sword of Berzerk SRPG and let lose some "Demon r@pe and Gutz chopping people into parsley action" it would have sold more.

Sad that we received two games, Valkyria Chronicles and Fallout 3, one an exclusive and the other an inferior port(at launch) and how the inferior port(With content witheld for monetary reasons from PS3 owners) outsold what we have been(some of us) BIT$HING about. As close to an exclusive JRPG as we will get this year and exclusive 3rd party support. Though i am sure that many rpg fans are giving it a shot(good for you).
Because of this i will make sure that i will get VC as my next purchase and maybe fallout 3 used(after i get 2 more controllers and the socom headset bundle and fill out my pre orders WKC, U2, KZ2, and above all the next Team ICO project)
