The 40GB will not su*k as you so nicely put it for a lot of people. Anyone who is really into it will have bought the 60GB on launch day like i have and yes i like the "nice to haves" (media card reader, backwards copmatibility and 4USB) but for a lot of people they dont care. i already know of half a dozen people who have rushed out to get a PS3 due to the cheaper model change, so well done SONY looks like this move is going to pay off big time

Guess I'll be going for the Matte Black 40GB.  It'd be nice to have it match my future HDTV (Sony Bravia, 32").  We're going to have to wait until Sony announces a 40GB release date for North America.  Oh well - it wouldn't be the first time Sony disappointed me.

Nice the white looks so much better than silver. When they had plans for all 3 colors I was debating over black or white.

Wow, love the colour.. I know its simple (in fact it should have been available since day 1) but its really nice.. Ill definately be picking up a new Duelshock 3 controller in a couple of months.

Well get the controlers in NA early 2008. I like the new white one but, I think Ill stick with black. besides I bought the cover slips for mine and they add a nice touch.

that really sucks. now i have to fork out another $50 for this controller. but the real crime here, is that the new white 40gig ps3 doesn't come with it. sony is really becoming  money hogs.

This may not mean anything, but I noticed that the pic for this thread showing the white ps3 is old because it has 4 usb ports.

i like how they are releasing the ceramic white version of ps3 and dual shock 3. Its sorta copying the color code for the wii and 360, but the good thing about it its selling better in japan than the 360 in sales,which have been white for awhile and been out longer lol.

Looks ok, i do like how the black stands out with the controller itself being white, but it is really just a waste of money to get it if u already have one

sony made 3 consoles already (20gb, 60gb, 80gb) and these didnt sell well and now the 40gb. what going on sonyyyy... just do one thing and that is make the price of ps3 exactly the same as xbox360 with an equal online service as xbox 360 cause so far xbox 360 live is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than ps3's. Doin wat i just said i quarantee sells will sky rocket and even beat xbox and Wii sells 100% sure. Theres no use of wasting ur value time on makin a brand new system, that just kills time but instead waste ur time on makin the online service 10 times better than xbox 360. When i play halo 3 on xbox live.. it is LIVEEEEEEEE to the point where i can play for the whole day and when i play a game on ps3 online, after 2 hours i just turn the whole thing off. ITS SOOOO HORIBLEEEEEEEE

Sony's strategy is cool. I too still like the black controller/system better. I saw someone was shocked about a white PS3 controller. Didn't PSOne, the smallest version, have a white controller? I believe it did. Sony4Life: The way you're talking it sounds to me like you want Sony to be M$. That won't happen. Sony is Sony and they're doing things great in my opinion. I think you're forgetting that Sony IS spending time optimizing their online. Home??? I guess what I'm trying to say is let Sony do their thing. At least we don't have to pay to play online.

Piano Black is the best colour out of the 3. Then I would say Satin Silver, and because of th Wii and 360 are in white, thats why a white PS3 is third for me. If you look at most HDTV's there mostly black so having a big white PS3 by it just won't look right.

I dont care because that white one looks very plastic-crap. I do however resent that whilst "English" speaking markets are vastly, vastly larger than "Japanese" speaking market - Sony insists on releasing better made PS3's with more features, in a bigger range of models and (now colours) and also bundle in Dynasty Warriors 6 and charge a lower cost.

Why do they influence the developers to release games in Japan almost a year before we get them. I could really do with some variety of titles - like now. Please Sony please get your act together.

Controller looks awsome! I would not mind having it but ti would look wierd wiht a black PS3. I think the 40gig version is a great idea. According to sony it's what people want. If you don't like it just get the next higher up version.
