Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida has criticised third-party publishers for failing to devote output to the PlayStation Portable.
"It's really, really disappointing and it's a lost opportunity for the third parties," he told IGN. "They should look at what the PSP can do for their titles and the potential for the business that their IP has."
Yoshida cited Monster Hunter as evidence of that potential. "What's happening in Japan is interesting," he said. "Because of the massive success of Monster Hunter, Japanese publishers realise, 'here's a resource'. Lots of people are playing PSP in groups of fours and when you go to Japan it's hard to find a train or a bar where you don't see some people playing a PSP. So other publishers in Japan are seeing these consumers, and thinking, 'Wow, we can make games for those consumers'."
"And this is a usage that really sits well with the PSP," Yoshida continued. "The most recent example is the Phantasy Star game from SEGA, and it's really catching on. Some of these will come over to US and Europe, and hopefully other third parties will start thinking about the PSP in the same way."
Sony will be setting an example itself, of course, with many upcoming projects still under wraps. "This year the big title was God of War, there's Buzz and next Spring we'll be releasing Resistance. We've been consistently leveraging our existing franchises but creating unique content for the PSP, customising how the game works in terms of interface. That's been working for us very well. We have many more games that we haven't announced for next year."

I've got to admit it...
Gettin a bit bored now I have a PS3.
We are but men, gta0004_. We err like everyone else.
Anyway, s'free country innit. If I want to spell words wrongly that's my democratic right, dang it.
ah well i only use my psp for football manager now :)
I use my PSP occasionally when i dont have acces to my PS3 or PC, but thats about it. I have alot of great games on it though, i wish there was more.
Ya know, what i REALLY want?A new GTA for the psp, with even more awesome ad hoc Multiplayer game modes! The psp's ad hoc is really something more and more games should utilise,i mean GTA VCS didn't even seem like it would be fun in MP,but man me and my sibs, can't get enough of it.
Just waiting for some good games, the titles have been a little lackluster these days. Just waiting for Locoroco 2 and Patapon 2. These a going to be good.
I see a few issues with the PSP that Sony faces.
Having said this, I have high hopes for the PSP2 and hope that Sony releases it next year.
yea, that's one thing I don't like about the PSP, it has only one analog stick. There was no reason why they couldn't put two analog sticks on it.
I use my psp for monster hunter
I listen to music and still playing patapon and final fantasy crisis core on my psp when I am traveling or having to wait somewhere.
Not enough support for the PSP? How about some more support for the PS3 please? I prefer unstealable exclusives over multi-plat. Sony says they won't pay for them, but how about a little schmoozing? "If you build it, they will come" doesn't cut it. How about attaching mini-games to PS3 titles that people can put onto thier PSPs, a lot of people have no idea about the remote play option.
who the fu*k takes his PSP to a BAR,i think u are supposed to get ummm i dunno maybe .....HAMMERED in a bar ,well just me anyways . cheers y"all
Frankly, I'm surprised to see the psp still on the market and I'ts a miracle it's doing so well against nintendo. Look what happend to sega with thier Game Gear and what about the "Neo-geo pocket" (I still have one). For decades nintendo had main controle on hand held systems, so I think this is mostly why dev's are reluctant on making games for psp!
I'm really looking forward to Resistance on PSP, but what I want, and hope they make, the most is GTA: San Andreas Stories.
