Square talks Final Fantasy VII remake

Final Fantasy VII Director Yoshinori Kitase recently touched on the possibility of remaking the RPG classic for the PlayStation 3, stating that fans could “expect the probability of something spontaneous happening at some point.”
Kitase commented that if a remake were to transpire, it would have to include all of the core team members from the original 1997 PlayStation classic; something which isn’t possible right now due each individual’s commitments to other projects.
"My feelings are that if a remake were to work well then all the core members of the original team must be reassembled, all the artists and designers,” said Kitase.
“The problem is that, although all of us have an idea of what a remake should be and how to do it, organising such a thing right now is logistically very difficult. All the different members are now involved in very new, very large projects like Final Fantasy XIII and those projects are going to take a while.”
Despite this, he refused to completely rule out the chances of a remake on PS3, adding, “Maybe, when all those games are finished then we can look at doing something like that.”
”Of course, that said we came up with the idea for Crisis Core in just two days. It was a case of 'this is what we want to do, so let's do it'. So, you can definitely expect the probability of something spontaneous happening at some point, but it's hard to predict."
Stay tuned for further developments as they break.

I created an account on this site just to post my thoughts...DO IT! I always told my friends and other fans of the FFVII series that I would buy a PS3 ONLY if they made a FFVII remake. With that said though please do not mess with the storyline at all lol of course tweak whatever to make it work but do not try to ruin perfection.

I own and have played the original, Crisis Core, Advent Children, and Dirge of Ceberus. Thank goodness the PS3 plays PS1 and PS2 games! Square Enix (originally Square Soft) is my favorite company, I follow most of their games especially Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. I wish that they would call the actors from Advent Children and offer them to be once again rich. I wonder how Steve Burton (Cloud Strife) is busy he just finished Crisis Core, right? My opinion is if they do make it (hopefully they will) they should send out messages to stores saying one copy per customer, I mean this is the game that revolutionized RPG's remade into an even better one. I say its a definite buy, my only fret is that they might change the story. They should change the battle system though, maybe combine Crisis Core with Final Fantasy XII, utilize the DMW with the character control instead of turns.I hate to admit it but once you see the opening preview you miss the old graffics. Tottaly make it!!!

All these people writing that they should just leave the game alone and work on new things need to realize they dont (and possibly cant) make things like they used to. Think about it music movies and in most cases video games. FF7 is my favorite game of all time but i fear if they ruin the remake that maybe those people were right in saying just leave it alone. I want a new weapon though but is it possible to be harder than ruby? Emerald was a walk in the park. DAMN i about to dig out my copy and play it again. MATERIA!!!! here we go again

I've never played Final Fantasy 7, because no one will share the game with or sell it to me. That's why I decided to just sit, be calm, and prey that the company decides to do a remake of the game.
I would like to play Final Fantasy 7 just once at home, and listen to others brag about how great the game is.

Unfortunately, I do not yet have the pleasure of owning a PS3. but if this IS released, I wiil do everything in my power to get it. But I do want 3 things answered:
1. Do we want to keep FFVII on the playstaion or also released on other networks? I personally don't, but some other families might not have the resources to buy a PS3 just for one game.
2. Do we want to keep the same battle setup as in the original where each player takes turns? I would rather have something like in the first Kingdom Hearts game or possibly in FFXII.
3. Do we want to keep the original game play or have extra game content like more side-missions, more types of weapons, perhaps being able to dye clouds hair pink, whatever...
I still have got my original FFVII and it would be mind-blasting to have a remake. And I would definitely love to have to re-play clouds side-mission where he dresses as a girl for a while! :P TEEHEE! -

i think the thought of square remaking ff7 is terrifying. it can go 2 ways: it will suck! or it will be a masterpiece. either way, once its done they wont remake it again. now imagine if the remake sucks! think about it, a sucky remake with better gfx but not as good gameplay. that will end ff7, people will judge ff7 by the later sucky version and say it sucks and then ff7 will become forgotten. despite being absolutely terrified that square may ruin the most ingenius game known to man, I WANT A REMAKE BECAUSE FF7 RULES ALL FF'S . I have played every ff and 7 is the best, and everyone who has played ff7 right until the ending credits always agrees with me. ff8 was very good, it had its very touching moments just like ff7 and a llot of great action packed cutscenes and brilliant battle sequences that made your heart pump just like ff7. i loved ff8 but comparing ff8 to ff7 would be like comparing a donut with no fillings or toppings to a donut with icing or jam. i played a few of the original final fantasys for the retro consoles but just could not get into them. i enjoyed 6 but ff7 is so much better than 6. ff9 wasn't bad but it wasnt that good either. ff10 sucked badly gameplay wise. the story was good and kept me playing but the game was very linear and disappointing. ff11 was online and never tried it, but i am not a big fan of mmorpgs anyhow since its all just grinding and no1 even takes notice to the quests or storylines. ff12 did not feel like a final fantasy game at all and i hated it ff13 may possibly be greater than ff7 considering it has some of ff7's dev team involved but i doubt square will be able to pull off anything better than ff7 because ff7 was their brightest tool in the box by far and probably always will be. saying this though, i am very impressed with what i have seen from ff13 so far and i admit it could very well be better than 7. anyone who disagrees with me will be disagreeing with 99 percent of people who have played ff7 right through until the end. even if ff13 beats ff7, i will still want an ff7 remake because i grew up as a kid playing ff7 and it will always be a part of who i am.

Too much Final Fantasy games? Don't know what they're about? Nobody knows what things are about till you try it. You can read about them on the internet, just get the lastest one of the one talked about the most. Theres too much Mario games.

Just make the Damn remake already Sqaure...I have an xbox 360 but if this game came out only for PS3 then I would go buy a PS3 just to play this game, and tons of other xbox owners would too, Sony needs to pressure Square into making this game, but don't change a thing just update the graphics and update the wording but dont change it cause other than the graphics and the way the words sound when you read it THIS GAME IS PERFECT!!!Q!

The re making of ff7 will take many years, why? it is because Square Enix's first major prob is the reassembling of staff, like Sakaguchi and Uematsu. Sakaguchi resigned from square and made his own company(Mistwalker), and Uematsu retired from making scores. 2nd is, there are many games on the list, Kitase is focusing on the development of FF Versus XIII and FF Agito XIII, that will tako too long to finish, and game devs are busy in the beta testing of FFIV online, releasing of KH to nds, Development of KH:BBS for PSP, and porting FFXIII to PC. for now, don't expect too much. but the reunion of the original staff for a ps3 remake of an epic masterpiece(FFVII) would be the best thing will happen the world of RPG gaming.

This is closer then we all think. Final Fantasy 13 is out and on the Xbox too. If Squarenix were to remake this game on the xbox to that world be the most awesome thing ever. Final Fantasy 7 and 10 we're in my opinion the best. But this remake would have very very high expectation to beat. If would have to follow the original game's plot and have absolute amazing graphics and a maybe a fresh vamp to the battle system. But if anyone can do it, squarenix can. after all they've done it 13 times now...

Once upon a time I hated RPG's. The stupid turn-based battles, level grinding. Weird stories that are to boring to warrant all the dialogue reading. Then something happened I went to the movie store..remember those..and was going to rent a new game..can't remember what now..but they were all checked out. So I grabbed a game because the case art looked neat. From that first opening scene I was hooked..I didn't sleep for days..I found my self emotionally invested in a game for the first time. So what ever the magic of FFVII is, it is irresistible. I found myself playing a lot more RPG's but none brought me to the same level as FFVII. So just make the damn thing already, let a new generating have some of that special FF VII magic, and for some to recapture a bit of the greatest moment of all their gaming endeavors.
