Sony gives a red light to PlayStation phone plans

If you're waiting on Sony to ever launch a PlayStation phone of some sort, you better stop holding your breath now. According to recent reports, Sony and their PlayStation brand has informed Sony Ericsson that there won't be any plans to green light a project in order to create a phone under the PlayStation name. Don't think you won't ever be able to make calls from a PlayStation device on the go however as you can still utilize Skype on your PlayStation Portable.

Speaking with Mobile Today, a Sony Ericsson spokesperson states that "In the past, we have been keen that our product proposition lives up to brand promise, and we feel at the moment the technical specs are not high enough to put such a prestigious brand on a phone."

It's hard to say whether Sony will ever move forward with the idea, but with the success of the iPhone and its gaming endeavors, there may be a slight chance that we will one day see a PlayStation Phone. However, we still don't recommend holding your breath for it.

I agree, a PSP that does phone calls sounds a lot more possible than a phone that does PSP...seems easier to make, too.

I read that it would not happen as long as they're partnered with Ericson. If they were ever to make phones on their own it might happen then but that's not likely to happen anytime soon.
