Leading videogame publisher and developer Capcom has today announced it is producing a brand new iteration in the Bionic Commando series for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC platforms.

The eponymous title will include the infamous hook tool used in the 1988 original, allowing players to grapple their way through any given environment, battle enemies, and wield various objects to their advantage.

The story revolves around a battle hardened super-solider named Nathan Spencer, who after serving his country in numerous conflict over the years, is framed and sentenced to death for crimes which he did not commit. However, when Ascension City is left in ruins following the application of an experimental terrorist weapon, Spencer reluctantly agrees to set out and quell the situation once again.

Capcom revealed that the game would be a collaborative affair between a number of different sectors, including a US-based producer, Japanese creative advisor and Swedish developer GRIN.

An estimated release date for the project has yet to be issued.

Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

For this not being the big announcement it's pretty cool. To tell you the truth I really liked Bionic commando for the NES and I thought that game was way of ahead of its time even back then. I'm really excited to hear that the devs are going to stick with the same idea as they did with the NES. That grappling hook was BADASS!
