Lost Planet requires 5GB installation

After Devil May Cry 4's special sandwich time, it seems like yet another Capcom game will force PS3 users to go make a sandwich when they first boot up the game.

The upcoming release of Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions will require PS3 users to install about 5GB's worth of content onto their PS3's hard drive before booting the game for the first time. This bit of information was reported from a press release copy of the game and had the users up in arms about yet some more sandwich time that Capcom is requiring from PS3 owners.

Unlike Devil May Cry 4, there is not much to read on-screen during the installation process making it pretty much pointless to sit in front of the TV watching it install so very slowly. There has been no official word whether most or all upcoming Capcom PS3 releases will have this install feature mandatory or if games with more content such as Lost Planet and DMC 4 will be the type of game requiring the extensive install. Another worry is what if you are the owner of Devil May Cry 4 and eventually Lost Planet? If you decided to stay loyal to the Capcom brand for a couple of more titles, your 40GB PS3 may end up being filled to capacity!

Stay tuned for any official word that Capcom may have regarding this issue.

That is silly. This is what the 50GB disk space should be for.

well this is getting ridiculous  makes  me not even want to play the game you should not have to installl 5 gigs to play a game CAPCOM show me that CRYSIS needs 5gigs to instal that makes sense but not mediocore games that require that much data especially when we have drakes furtune which is way more beautiful than any game out for the ps3 and look no install. very very angry capcom

Not getting the game anyways... But if they can provide some REAL reasons as to why they are doing this then maybe people won't be so butt hurt over it.

This one has me scratching my head. UT3 requires 2GB. AC 1.3GB. HSword 2GB. UNCHARTED DOESN'T EVEN HAVE AN INSTALL and its arguably the best looking console game to date. Now all those "CAPCOM SUCKS" comments I've been seeing start to make sense. If they can't get a game over a year old to run without a 5GB mandatory install (UT3 install + AC install + HSword install = 5.6 GB) then they do suck LOL.

"UNCHARTED DOESN'T EVEN HAVE AN INSTALL"

As far as I know, you do have to install some data in Uncharted. It doesn't take long (maybe a minute or at max two), but it's still there.

wtf is Capcom thinking? I'm not buying there sh!t if they're gonna be eatin away at my hdd like this. Uncharted only loads once and no more. Capcom just doesn't know how to use hardware properly. Don't think I'll be getting Street Fighter if it takes 5 gigs too.

May be it's because their lousy Framework engine(which they use for probably ALL of their games for next gen consoles) doesn't play nice with the ps3,just like UE3,Capcom better not make this a trend.

@Azu ... Uncharted has NO INSTALL. I have the game so I know LoL. Unless you consider 256K save files installing data?

crazy just crazy its one thing with DMC4 being a brand spanking new game but this game is a year old. At this rate RE5 will require a seperate HDD. Feeling for the people who bought the 20Gb verson. I actually was considering getting this game to pass the time until the spring onslaught due to its $40 price tag but now I'll have to pass because I don't want to junk up my HDD. Way to go Capcom...I'll put that $40 towards my GTA4 preorder.

not getting it so no botherd but if this satrts a trend then things will get worse as the years come and go, the HDD sould be used on the fly for temporary data as and when needed, this was the intended use it, 5gb is a lot considering it's juat over half the capacity of the xbox360 dvd9!! maybe it's un compressed on blu ray which may make it slower at loading. just an idea based on nothing really!!

Personally, I'm not interested in DMC4 or this year-old tosh, but I don't know why people are complaining - we all knew that this was going to happen eventually. You either put up witih long(er) loading times, or you accept that things will be installed on your HD. That is what it's there for, after all.

However, that said, I can only assume that Capcom haven't managed to create optimised loading routines yet. There are a number of games which stream from BD - Uncharted, Ratchet, Burnout Paradise to name just three, and each from a different developer - so I see no reason why Capcom can't manage it. Unless of course they just chose not to...

well that what happens when all capcom is doing is giving us a port of the 360 games. I for one isn' interested in the trash that capcom is throwing us ps3 owners. Everything out their PR press is " we're working on the 360 first, then on the ps3".  get with it already, 360 ports just don't cut it on the ps3
