UK PlayStation 3 sales rose by 14 per cent following the release of Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 5 Prologue last week, according to the latest Chart Track figures.
"PlayStation 3 sales went up by 14 per cent for week 13, after going up 73 per cent the week before. Xbox 360 sales were down by 11 per cent,” said Chart Track boss, Dorian Bloch.
As reported last week, the PS3 currently maintains a slight lead over the Xbox 360 in terms of weekly sales, despite Microsoft lowering the price of its system in recent weeks.
"PS3 is in the lead a bit right now but not by a huge amount,” added Bloch, noting that sales for the quarter as a whole were "up about 15 per cent year-on-year - the year so far is looking pretty good."

Yeah it's interesting to see that the PS3 is still holding the lead even though it's still considerably more expensive that the 360.
I suspect part of that is down to the Blu-ray functionality now that the hi-def war is over.
It will be interesting to see how GTA4 changes the scene. Will the downloadable content on the 360 sway things back in their direction, or will the until now PS loyal grand-theft-auto'ers stick with the PS3?
Personally I think they should make everyone in the country play Everybody's Golf and then see who can resist the PS3 :)

I dont agree that the PS3 is considerably more expensive, you have to compare like for like, and the only Xbox thats close to the PS3 is the Elite, yes it has a larger hard disk but thats it. So if you consider that the elite is still £250 and a PS3 bundle with GT5P is £289 in my opinion there is no contest, especialy as you can cheaply and easily upgrade your PS3 HDD if you need. Plus as already mentioned the Blu Ray factor is a real killer for the xbox, along with built in wireless and to be honest i have both and i do feel the PS is a better piece of kit

The 360 only has Gears 2 and Fable 2 to look forward to this whole year for good exclusives. With MGS4, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, LBP, Haze, SOCOM, and (possibly out this year) FF XIII, I think we have the edge...by a mile.

Ha! The Playstation 3 hasn't had a recent price drop in the U.K. like the Xbox 360, and the PS3 is still selling just a little bit more than the Xbox 360. And if GT5 Prologue spured sales, I can't even imagine how many people in the U.K. will be buying PS3's when MGS4 comes out. I think that a large majority of those people are gearing up for GTA4 and MGS4 though.

Wow all that caused by a great demo. I really can't wait to see what happens when MGS4 drops and I am really interested to see what happens when GTA4 drops. Are the 120 million PS2 owners waiting for it to drop to go and get a PS3? A lot of the people I know that love the GTA series aren't really hardcore gamers, so they wont even be aware of the exlcusive content the PleaseFixMe has.

GT5P is not a demo! it has more replay value than most games out there. you can pay 40 bucks for this game or pay 60 bucks for a game like burnout, turok, or ect. and still GT5P will have alot more replay value than all of them. with 16 players online racing at a time, 71 something cars included with it and ect. even if it aint the full game, its well worth its price unlike most games.
