Square talks Final Fantasy VII remake

Final Fantasy VII Director Yoshinori Kitase recently touched on the possibility of remaking the RPG classic for the PlayStation 3, stating that fans could “expect the probability of something spontaneous happening at some point.”

Kitase commented that if a remake were to transpire, it would have to include all of the core team members from the original 1997 PlayStation classic; something which isn’t possible right now due each individual’s commitments to other projects.

"My feelings are that if a remake were to work well then all the core members of the original team must be reassembled, all the artists and designers,” said Kitase.

“The problem is that, although all of us have an idea of what a remake should be and how to do it, organising such a thing right now is logistically very difficult. All the different members are now involved in very new, very large projects like Final Fantasy XIII and those projects are going to take a while.”

Despite this, he refused to completely rule out the chances of a remake on PS3, adding, “Maybe, when all those games are finished then we can look at doing something like that.”

”Of course, that said we came up with the idea for Crisis Core in just two days. It was a case of 'this is what we want to do, so let's do it'. So, you can definitely expect the probability of something spontaneous happening at some point, but it's hard to predict."

Stay tuned for further developments as they break.

@ forthesteel: You have no idea how mad I would be if they stopped making Final Fantasy XIII. That would be ridiculous. I'd rather have  FFXIII then an FFVII remake any day, don't forget the original still holds high ground over a lot of things and I can still play it

I hope they do indeed end up making this. As if it wasn't enough that they teased people with a "this is what FF7 could look like on PS3" triailer before the console launched. I agree with the earlier posts, I haven't been overly impressed with Crisis Core, or all that many of Squenix's projects as of late, but if they get the original team together for this, I think it would be too hard to pass up.

if you think about it FFVII on the PS3 wouldnt take that long to remake

simply because they already have the main story, the battle system, the characters, and the monsters it would just be redoing the graphics even though they would prolly add a bunch of stuff to it IF they just redid the game & didnt make that many changes to it it would be a fairly fast process

IMO they should make it for every next-gen platforms (PC, PS3, X360)

Especially PC and PS3, because FF7 was made for PC and PSone.

It'll be one of the best selling games all over the world. Square you should think about it too ;]

Damn! Guys, just think about how great game would be FF7 with next-gen graphics and the original story! Yeah! I'll buy one if Square will relase it.

Final Fantasy 7 needs to be remade with the success of Crisis Core Square-Enix needs to give it a shot. Final Fantasy 7 is the best game ever made in my opinion for 1 reason. I have never in my entire life experienced such a beautiful, moving enticing storyline in any game, movie, book or RL experience, FF7 is in itself a genius work of art way ahead of its time. I have beaten the game 17  times the last time of which was during my last deployment to afghansitan. This game will forever hold a place in my heart and if i could I would give my life for the man who created this masterpiece for the experience this game has given me

They need to leave a classic alone and drop this s*** already. SE needs to think of some new s*** instead of trying to make remakes of there everything. the movie was good but leave FF7 alone already. think of new stuff to put out there. whatever happened to thinking outside the box? lol

They are going to make it, maybe not right now, but they are definitely going to make it.

Square-enix only cares about one thing, and thats big MONEY. They know the giant fanbase that FFVII has, and they wouldn't of made a compilation of FFVII if they didnt know that people were going to obsess over it.

The remake is probably going to be the final piece of the FFVII compilation.

i dont think you no what a remake on this game means to some people i didnt like the graphix on ff7 in 1997 but thse modern day technology could make it the biggest selling game ever. ff7 was voted the best ff so why scrap the idea of making anoher one
