Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) director of hardware marketing John Koller has said that he feels the PlayStation 3 is "still in its early adopter phase,” despite the format having been on the market for two years.
Speaking with Gamasutra, Koller observed that those interested in purchasing Sony’s platform are generally “tech-oriented,” and as a result are most interested in the console’s "multi-functionality.”
“The PS3 is still in its early adopter phase, tech-oriented consumer... they're interested in the multi-functionality of the system,” he said.
Touching briefly on PlayStation Portable, Koller said of the Sony handheld, "it's more of a 13-17 year old [demographic], multi-ethnic, a bit lower-income as well (as the PS2)".
The platform holder recently defended its decision not to lower the price of the PS3 over the holiday season, pointing to the machine’s capabilities as a Blu-ray player and technical prowess as a means of offering more bang for your buck.

The problem with Sony lowering the price of the PS3 is its aready losing money becuase its much cheaper retail than it is to produce it. On the other hand the productions costs have almost been cut in half since 06 when it debuted.

i have bought all consoles within the first month apart from PS3, but I would say there is a steeper admirability curve for the PS3 compared to the other platforms. I loved them all, but this one I think really is good. Like it says, we have plenty more to come from it too.

Yep that makes sense. I do 150% honestly agree with Koller with the pricepoint of the PS3 it doesn't need a price cut only idiots believe of a PS3 price cut (Pachter, Greenberg) just plain idiots

The only system ive bought in the first year was Nintendo64 after i always waited at least one whole year so all the bugs are fixed and there is a wider library. HHmmm well that bug fixing year didnt do anything for MS cause even after 1 whole year out i bought an xbox360 and got the RROD as all my other xbox360 friends.

The moment I realised it was release day I ran to the shops and got the last one they had - phew!
I'm glad I did - I've certainly had more than my moneys worth out of it. If I had waited I would have missed out on 500 hrs of Warhawk. When you think of it that way I've only paid £1/hr gameplay. That's a pound well spent :D
