Capcom: Resident Evil 5 will be ‘biggest title in series to date’

Capcom’s senior marketing manager, Michael Pattison, has pledged that upcoming horror sequel Resident Evil 5 will go on to become the biggest entry in the long running franchise to date.

The publisher is hopeful its self-described “stellar” Q1 line-up will hold a dismissive hand up to any potential reduction in consumer spending in light of the ongoing economic crisis, and is banking on entries such as Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil 5 rake in the more discerning punter.

“It’s definitely going to be a strong quarter for us, maybe our strongest ever,” said Pattison, adding, “The industry isn’t immune to what’s happening in the economy. People’s disposal income will be cut and they’re going to be more discerning about their purchases. Core games are perhaps better placed than those targeting a more casual audience, as core gamers will obviously purchase more games than a casual gamer.”

“Our hopes for our Q1 line-up are very high indeed. Resident Evil is by all accounts going to be the biggest title in the series to date, reaching the widest user base in its history.”

Pattison also said the company is keen on embracing fresh talent, commenting, “We’re always looking to bring strong talent on board.”

“We’re still looking to expand when the opportunity and time is right. With an ever-stronger line-up in 2009 we’re certainly well positioned to continue to expand.”

Resident Evil 5 is due out on March 13 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
