Blu-ray market penetration reaches record high

Blu-ray sales represented 17% of the overall home video market on the week ending January 25, according to Nielsen First Alert data reported in Home Media Magazine.

This is a record high for Sony's high-definition video format, just overtaking the previous record of 16%, which was also achieved in January. It appears that the vast amount of Blu-ray players sold over the holiday are undoubtedly being used.

Last year's estimates that Blu-ray will overtake DVD in 2012 appear to be right on track, despite the current global recession.
