Media Create data for the week ended February 22 in Japan has revealed that Sony’s PlayStation 3 console is continuing to narrow the gap between itself and the Wii, with sales of Nintendo's machine continuing to decline on a weekly basis.
PS3 notched up 16,149 sales, very nearly surpassing the Wii, which shifted 16,973 units during the same period – the consoles lowest weekly performance to date. Are the tides about to turn in Sony's favour? Only time will tell.
Thanks to the release of Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope, however, Xbox 360 managed to outpace both machines, selling over 25,000 units. Elsewhere, DSi and PSP continued to slug it out for first place, selling 41,839 and 29,552 units each, respectively.
See below for a full chart round up.
DSI/ 41,839
PSP/ 29,552
Xbox 360/ 25,334
Wii/ 16,973
PS3/ 16,149
DS Lite/ 9,975
PS2/ 5,029

With the release of Yakuza 3, i expect PS3 on top for this week.
With the Wii and 360 perhaps around the same mark.
The decline of the Wii sales gradually this year really shows that having such weak third party support is damaging the Wii's image, i don't expect Nintendo to do anything in the immediate future though.

Also the Yen has been climbing against the dollar throughout February making imported goods cheaper.

"The 360 got Star Ocean last week, that probably why it's on the top"
That's probably why they said that in the article.

Resident evil 5 should help in those sales. the 360 might get the upper hand next week because of halo wars though

Market Saturation. That's why the Wii has falling sales. Everyone and their dog in Japan already owns one. Give it a few more weeks like this and those 'Special Edition' Wii consoles in different colours will be unleashed from the warehouse and see the sales soar again. And least we forget they are still selling at full launch price!

well......i suppose the 360 must has it`s chance, but it ends here as the next month ,things will be diffirent, and it seems as the wii`s sales are starting to fall apart. At any rate, the ps3 is showing some advantage, considering the release of that silly game

I'm glad to hear this. I hate to sound like a fanboy (because I do hate them so much) but the PS3 has a lot of good software and downloadables and is more often than not underaprecciated. The 360 is good, although it has the most atrcious hardware faliure rate in console history. The Wii is the best selling of them all despite having weak hardware and abysmal software, keep it up Sony.

Just to add something, Yakuza 3 has just sold 232,000 copies on its FIRST DAY in Japan (according to Famitsu). Can't wait to see how that's affected the weekly sales!
In comparison, Star Ocean 4 sold 162,000 in one WEEK in Japan.
Gotta say, that made me laugh. Good move Square Enix!
