Internet rumors are claiming that the Mortal Kombat development team is currently in talks with various publishers with the intention of leaving Midway and forming its own studio.
Sources close to website Kotaku have said that the move has been sparked by the team’s frustration in not having received bonus payments in light of the success of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.
Furthermore, the team are also allegedly miffed about the handling of Midway’s bankruptcy filing as well the various delays a number of projects within the company are facing.
Midway commented: "Midway is not refusing to pay out those bonuses. It's the unsecured creditors committee that is refusing to allow us to pay them. They're the ones holding that up."
Development on the next entry in the Mortal Kombat series is already said to be underway.
