Motomu Toriyama, director of Final Fantasy XIII, has revealed that his team currently have the eagerly awaited RPG running at 30fps in 720p resolution.

According to Toriyama, Square Enix is going the extra mile to ensure folk who own bog standard analog TV sets will be able to read the game's on-screen text, as well as confirming that the cut scenes can be skipped or paused.

From the sound of things, development is progressing smoothly: "We've almost finished all the parts of the game," he said, adding, "From now on, it's a matter of putting them together."

In regards to the forthcoming demo packaged with Advent Children, Toriyama revealed that the playable build contains "about an hour" of gameplay, with Famitsu noting “there's almost no load time" and "the background music is so so cool."

Final Fantasy XIII is due out in Japan later this year, with a European release following in 2010.

psh 30FPS at 720p? Uncharted and GOW3 will be doing superior things than that.

^ My thoughts exactly! Maybe the 360 is holding it back some, or it might be pushing more visuals seeing that it is a FF game that might not be to far from the truth.

for people with standard definition TVs my ***.  If you are playing you next gen system on a standard tv you probably dont have a next gen system. this is all so that failbox 360 can run it seeing as if they made it 1080p at 60fps you would need 3 dvds and your failbox 360 would red ring just being on the title screen. I once respected square enix but not anymore. i was promised no compromises from being cross platform this is a load of garbage. im not even sure i want to invest in this game anymore

Using 100% of the PS3 power.?

Sounds like a run-of-the-mill multiplatform game to me.

The goal for PS2 game frame rates was 30 fps.

Good to see the next gen hardware has inspired higher goals.

My guess is PS4 games will run at 1080p.....in 30 fps.

For an RPG this sounds really good. It isnt going to be all closed areas like a shooter, so the graphics will never be as high as a shooter or racing game can pull off..

Cant wait, though im hoping for Versus more (The dark-theme (If thats still in o.O) appeals to me more.)

@5: Uncharted, GOW3, and FF13 are all different types of games. and 30FPS at 720p is pretty good.

@7: I didnt have an HDTv till November but I got my PS3 in january of last year, but I still had a "next-gen system". How does your TV determine if you have a next-gen system or not?
