Rumor: Ratings board confirms Guitar Hero: Van Halen

American hard rock act Van Halen look set to become the next band to receive the Guitar Hero treatment.
While publisher Activision has yet to formally announce anything, Kotaku has sniffed out a listing for 'Guitar Hero headlining Van Halen' (PS3/Xbox 360) via the German ratings board, the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (USK).
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to keen followers of the series, given that Activision boss Bobby Kotick previously hinted at the possibility of a Guitar Hero based on Van Halen’s music back in March.
"If we're [...] creating a whole new group of consumers, six to eleven year old consumers, who are being exposed to Aerosmith for the first time or Van Halen for the first time, whatever that might be we need to capture much more of that upside opportunity,” said Kotick.
Van Halen rose to fame in the late 1970s fronted by flamboyant vocalist David Lee Roth, before going on to score numerous hits throughout the 80s with curly-haired frontman Sammy Hager. The band reunited with Roth for a North American tour in late 2007, culminating with a gig at the Van Andel Arena, MI on June 2, 2008.

Activision is really pushing out the Guitar Hero games now, aren't they? Instead of having bands as download packs, fans have to pay full price for what amounts to DLC. I miss when Guitar Hero was good. Ah well, back to Rock Band. Come to think of it, the Beatles game looks like it's going the same way.
