Sony is confident PS3 will top 360 within 10-year time-frame

Sony America has expressed its confidence that the PlayStation 3 will surpass Microsoft’s competing Xbox 360 in terms of overall unit sales over the course of the next decade.
Speaking to the chaps at IGN, SCEA’s Peter Dille commented: “I don’t think [360 will] be around in 10 years so I’m very confident we’ll pass them within that time frame.”
“I mean, we’ve got 31 million [units sold] worldwide right now — they’ve got 39 million [units sold]. I don’t even need to go out 10 years.”
Despite this, Dille remained tight lipped in regards to putting an estimation as to when he expects PS3 to take the lead, adding, “I’m not going to make any predictions for your interview today other than we’ll pass them, but you look at where we are today and where they are today, and they had an opportunity to sprint as far ahead of us as possible when they had the head start.”
“Well, we’re breathing down their necks and they can see us in the rearview mirror and it’s not going to take too long to pass them.”
To be fair, it’s looking pretty rosy for Sony at present, with PS3 growth in the U.S. last year topping 20 percent, with the big M only managing a measly 0.74 percent. Watch this space, eh?

A lot of xbox sales are duplicates... i dont know about ps3 tho I mean that my friend was telling me he was gonna buy his 3rd xbox 360. His first one RROD, 2nd one got busted online for being chipped, and is now going for his 3rd. How many other people go through that and \\\'increasing\\\' xbox 360 sales.. who knows

I would not be so sure about the fast PS3 lead. Sure since 2008 PS3 is beating X-360 with software, and sure 2010 looks amazing but... remember that Microsoft got enormous marketing potential. They managed to skyrocket the WORST operating system (Windows 95) just by using money in the right place, thus crushing other, much better operating systems. Also have you forgotten about Halo? ONE game, ONE franchise that decided original X-Boxes existence. So there may be some game that Microsoft will get and overhype above anything that may decide yet. But as things look right now - yes, in 2010 there is not much chance for X-360 to beat PS3, and yes it should close the gap further and further, and yes PS3 is more future-proof than X360 :)

mickysoft will drop xbox within 3 years. And there wont be a follow-on. They're still bleeding money on their entertainment division and eventually their shareholders will call them to account, particularly as the cash cows they gutted to pay for it are starting to lose their lustre in a more competitive market (i.e. office + winblows).
It's been a disaster on so many levels, and there's still lots of broken hardware out there too.

Seems plausible to me. Actually, I think a few people here overestimate the marketing power of Microsoft. MS is loosing turf, not only in the entertainment sector but basically on every sector that they've tried to get in on. I don't think MS will ever be in substantial danger, but they will at some point need to retreat from some markets to remain dominant in others. They 360 turned out to be a cash cow and is now quickly loosing its appeal, while at the same time it's not likely that a new console will fix those problems (current gen is still not at it's full potential). Also they'd loose the only notable advantage the 360 currently seems to have over the PS3, which is that it's apparently easier to work with for game studios. A new console would turn that upside down. So, since the old one is starting to stutter.. go ps3.

during 10 years ps3 will be ps3 and all im going is a new xbox in two years, if this is a race u cant throw in a new model because they lost, and wow one game on xbox can be overhype, but ps3 has a kingdom of franchises and many more to make, its funny how mircosoft takes one of our franchise and sony replaces it with 3-5 new titles and xbox might halo but sony doesn't rely on one franchise they make franchises.

Well, I always thought the PS3 is better and would in due time get the better games and on my part I am right. But never make predictions like this. It only makes Sony look full of themselves and make other people think that as well. And who cares? People get what they think is best and some buy both of them. I mean, I would LOVE to get the 360 just because of Left 4 Dead. The reason I don't is because I have a gaming laptop that can run all games to date perfectly fine and pretty much ALL xbox games are also on the PC.

LOL by that time microsoft is gonna come out with a new system, i dont know maybe xbox 720 or xbox 3 or xbox whatever the 3rd lol. also in terms of online content and online experince sony has a long way to go, xbox sucks to death but xbox live is way better than stupid PSN. they have 1000000000000 of avatars, themes, wallpapers. they have everysingle dlc and content from each game, they get awesome demos every week. their update is not boring like PSN, so what we have to pay like what 50$ or 60$ a year for subscribtion because thats what we want right, we want content otherwise our systems dont even need to be connected to internet.

By the time that happens we will be well into the next gen of consoles so I dont think that this bothers MS that much. They have taken some marketshare away this gen and thats whats really important. I wish the best for sony but they have clearly underestimated the 360 this gen.
