The latest issue of Japan’s gaming bible Famitsu has confirmed Barry Burton and Rebecca Chambers as the final two playable characters in Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition’s Mercenaries Reunion mode.
Both characters appeared in the original Resident Evil as part of the S.T.A.R.S team sent to investigate the Spencer Mansion in Raccoon Forest. Burton assisted Jill Valentine, while Chambers partnered with Chris Redfield.
Chambers went on to appear in the prequel Resident Evil Zero back in 2002, though promptly disappeared off the face of the earth and hasn’t been seen canonically since. Lovable oaf Burton rescued Valentine and pretty boy Carlos Oliveira seconds before the destruction of Raccoon City in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, and appeared in the non-canon Gameboy effort, Resident Evil: Gaiden.
From the look of the Famitsu scans, Chambers sports a hefty-looking Grenade Launcher and sub machine-gun, while Burton wields a custom S.T.A.R.S Beretta (although we certainly hope his trusty Magnum Revolver puts in an appearance).
