Sony wants to put God of War 'to bed for a while'

Stig Asmussen, director of the upcoming God of War III, has said that punters shouldn’t expect fresh entries in the series to be churned out on a regular basis, with Sony keen to extend the waiting period between each instalment or risk the franchise becoming “irrelevant.”
"I think there comes a time when to maintain a high level of quality... the bottom line is you can't get burned out, and the source material can't always be the same," said Asmussen, during a chinwag with 1up.
"I want God of War to be one of those games where if there are more God of Wars, we're seeing them spread out over time - it's not like our studio's making a new God of War every two or three years or something like that, and then the series becomes irrelevant."
Apparently, The Stig even went as far to say that he wouldn’t mind waiting a decade before we see Kratos again following the third game.
"Then when it comes back, it's fresh and you remember why you loved that game so much," he continued. "I think it would be good at this point to take that approach with God of War... For a trilogy, it's great. Let's put it to bed for awhile though."
God of War III hits shops later this month.

I fully agree..don't think we should be having another GOW title until sometime into the PS4's cycle.

isn't it absolutely stupid to say that just before the game is released?
I think it will lose some sales

I actually wouldn't mind waiting until the PS5 as a launch title. their are so many great new IPs this generation that will carry over onto PS4 for sure. plus with the 12 year or so gap from this GOW trilogy to the begining of PS5 it'll be mind blowing. just imagine that as the last title just before launching the PS5...and did we mention, God Of War 4. everyone would loose their shiit and imediately go buy a PS5 no matter what the price. brilliant!

I think 2 games per franchise per generation (10 years) is about right. How many cod games have we had this generation???
