Heavy Rain to sell 1.5 million by year's end, says Cage

David Cage, co-founder of Quantic Dream, has expressed his delight over the success of Heavy Rain at retail, revealing that the PS3-exclusive thriller is on track to shift 1.5 million copies by the end of the year.
Chatting with the folks at Play3.de, Cage commented, “We have sold more than 1 million copies of Heavy Rain worldwide,” adding, “That was a surprise to many, since estimated sales were between 200,000 to 300,000 units. We estimate that by the end of the year, we will have sold 1.5 million copies, and are very pleased with the reception.”
The executive also highlighted the fact that Heavy Rain isn’t your standard all-out action/adventure affair, and conceded it was always going to be a risk for the company putting the game to market. Fortunately, it paid off.
“Our game isn’t an action game, it’s not a role-playing game, [and] it’s not an adventure. It isn’t in any one genre. When you create a new, convention-busting game to the market, it’s always a risk, both for the developer and the publisher.”

Not really it's a mystery story to be sure, picking up clues and making desisions about what to do next, but it's more hands on, there's more time sensitive situations and action that requires your constant input, One or two times where I started to let go of my controller and just watch the story I almost died because I wasnt expecting what happened next.

I'm surprised that it sold so well. I wasn't expecting that many people to respond to a game that wasn't a mindless hack n slash or shooter.
But it's hardly a convention busting game. There's no real difference from Indigo Prophecy and it is and adventure game despite what he says. It's just a step up from pixel hunting game play. Though I'm undecided whether QTE's are better than pixel hunting.

I loved this game. I still don't have the platinum, but when I get closer to it (do almost everthing besides all endings) I'll be sure to get the DLC. I hope they continue the dlc and bring out things we haven't seen before. Heavy Rain and God of War 3 have been an awesome change from shooters galore last year.

Seriously I don't get it.
I have played and truthfully I wasted 70. I wish I would have rented it.
It is being played off as innovative and on and on but if setting a table, doing work at home playing with your kids at a park, feeding a baby and many other tasks that you have to do in ordinary life sound exciting and innovative than this is the game for you. Honestly the absolute only reason why I played through this was because of what I spent. Had I rented it I would not have seen the end, which still was not innovative.
I somehow feel like the ones posting this is a great game must be from the cy who created it and the rews must have been bought.
But in case I am wrong, I promise if you visit me I can fill your life by getting you to do all my day to day tasks so I can play games I enjoy.
Rent it, Rent it, Rent it!
