'SEGA will probably let me make Shenmue 3,' says Suzuki

Yu Suzuki reckons SEGA will “probably” let him rustle up a Shenmue III if given the chance, though noted the reason it hasn’t happend yet is down to one simple thing: budget.
Speaking at GDC this week (via Gamasutra), the legendary developer reiterated his desire to continue the forklift driving, sailor-searching cult classic, and reckons his former bosses at SEGA will give him the green light to do so.
"Well, I want to make it," he commented. "About 200 people will buy it, I think," he quipped, though given the fact a new title in the adventurer hasn’t been seen in almost a decade, we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s slipped off the public’s radar altogether.
"Funding is an issue," he continued. "Probably Sega will let me make it. I think," adding, "It's simply a problem of budget."
For those who didn’t have the pleasure of playing the Dreamcast classic, Shenmue is a bit like marmite. You either love it, or hate it. The game cost $47 million (not the rumored $70 million, which Suzuki himself took the time to clarify this week) million to produce, and was something of an eye-opener for its time.
The game itself takes place in the late 1980s, and focuses on stoic hero Ryu Hazuki’s quest to avenge the murder of his father by duffing up thugs, chatting with the locals and playing Hang On down the local arcade.

I think more than 200 people would buy S3 there was more fans than that in it's hayday thats for sure me included so only 199 more to please, I am quite puzzled by the buget prospect does that mean SEGA would be willing to provided big money and the tech to make sure this game stands out.
Couldn't do a joint deal with somone to fund the project or just re-release all the Mega Drive classics to provide some funding towards since there cashing in on the same games like Sonic 1, 2 etc over and over again.
SEGA get your head out your trapdoor and start to find a way to fund this project but dont rush it give it time and make sure it's going to follow on from 1 & 2 please oh and while your at it release the original DC games on PSN too as a bundle for £10 that would also fund the next game.

Defo A must buy for me if it happens. And yes take your time and do it right. I\\\'m the biggest Sega fan there is but even I\\\'ve been let down by so many Sega titles of recent years that I\\\'ve lost count. This would need to be spectacular and push all the right buttons. I\\\'ve been waiting for Shenmue 3 since time began and will orgasmn if they do it.

Lack of funding? If Sega needs the funs why not re-release Shenmue 1 & 2 on PSN, i am sure Sega would make at least 20 million from sales. i am sure the budget for Shenmue 3 would be higher than for Shenmue 2. I hate to say this but I think it would kinda be a commericial flop depending on how many people were to buy it. i am sure there are fans but probably less than when the games orginally released. Why doesn't Sega team up with EA for the partners program or THQ maybe Activision? A bigger budget would make the game possible.
