Will you buy the new Xbox 360-styled controller for your PS3?

We’re very happy with our DualShock 3 controller for PlayStation 3, but it seems that others maybe aren’t so keen. Talking with Speedlink at GamesCom 2011, we discovered that the peripheral manufacturer is on the verge of releasing a curious new product, the XEOX Wireless gamepad for PS3.

What makes this controller so unique is that it’s the first pad that mimics the style of the Xbox 360 controller, but it's designed specifically for PS3 gamers. In terms of form factor, it does feel identical to the black wireless Xbox 360 controller that comes bundled with the Xbox 360 Elite, but it has a few minor changes.

A turbo button sits just to the right of the d-pad for rapid-firing, while the traditional PlayStation symbols on each of the buttons differ slightly from Sony's official pads. Instead of coloured symbols, Speedlink has opted for a simple black and grey design.

You’ll also notice that the central, circular button, which opens up the XMB, is illuminated in Xbox-green when the controller is turned on and if you look at the control from arms length the 'XEOX' branding actually looks like it says Xbox. Having had our hands on the XEOX prototype at GamesCom, it does feel a little weird handling a controller that is so similar to Microsoft’s official pad, yet using it to play games on the PS3. But, Speedlink really does believe there's a market out there for this kind of product.

Is DualShock 3 that bad that you’d consider buying an Xbox 360 controller, or do you think the Xbox 360 controller feels more comfortable than the DualShock3? Let us know your thoughts.

The XEOX Wireless Gamepad goes on general sale in October 2011.

PS3 controller is way too small, i have big hands and its hard to play...kinda awkward...and the sticks are too close together...I willl buy this for sure because Ive been playing my 360 A LOT more lately and am used to the superior design of the controller...

Reading the comments and wondering - note I have no preference one way or another. But basically with my big hands so far never had any issues with the DS3. What I did find is that most third party gamepads tend to have HUGE deadzones on the sticks which basically makes them useless. I rather pay the $3 for what the Real Triggers cost and turn the DS3 into a great controller than buy anything from a third party.

I think the Xbox controllers are to big and bulky.  Never have liked it.  Don't like the joystick layout either.  Have liked the Dual Shock since the days of the PS1 and hope they never stray to far from it's layout, size or feel.

I think this is a good idea for people who started with the original PS1/PS2 and switched over to Xbox/Xbox 360 and are used to playing with the Xbox 360 controller, I personally told myself that I would get another PS3 when the time was right to get another one. I previously had 4 of them but could not keep them because the bills had to come first. I will definitely consider buying one once I purchase another PS3. Also the PS3 controller would probably be a little easier to get used to being that I have been playing 360 for the past 3 years. Interesting difference they are but not by a lot.

I love the feel of the 360 controller (DualShock 3 not as comfortable but still cumfy) but hate the shifted thumb stick and find with how bad the d-pads are on xbox, that shifting down in a game from left thumb stick to a shi**y d-pad can be a real problem playing high intensity games! Triggers are beauty on xbox but prefer buttons for fps because it is more responsive because u don\'t have to pull it a certain distance, its a click cause its a button on ps3 and the DS3 triggers are nice for grenade tossing when it depends on how far the grenade will b tossed based on how far pull the trigger. The DS3 are delicate compared to 360 controllers cause ive dropped all my 360 controllers and they are still the same quality, when ive dropped all my DS3 the screws come a bit lose and i frequently have to tighten them. i also find that the analogs on ps3 last longer and don\'t loosen where as my 360\'s have all been worn to the point of movement on screen altho im not even touching the controller (could of been just my luck). Stop being fanboys and start being gamers!

Whats with all the negativity towards this? I like the DS3...but for certain games, for example FPS, i much prefer the xbox style, and would be happy to give this a try.

Absolutely Not. Plying with X-Box 360 Controller is realy pain in the butt! Why? Because the analogs are on the worst possible position plus they are so small that you never hold them right. they always slip. After one hour play time, you realy feel serious pain on your thumbs.

On the other hand if they try to make it with dualshock  anlalogs, I would want to give it a try.

The PlayStation controller is by far the best. Having the analog stick and D-Pad swapped is an uncomfortable setup for me. One of the main reasons I do not like the Xbox consoles is because of the controller. I like my PlayStation analog sticks the way they are. I would never waste my money on this.
