Electronic Arts has revealed that pre-orders for Mass Effect 3 in the U.K. are “well ahead” of the game’s predecessor at the same point before launch.

The sci-fi sequel is due out on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 early next month, marking the first time a game in the series has released simultaneously on all major platforms.

EA is slinging a huge amount of money into marketing the RPG juggernaut, with Will Graham, product manager for EA, telling MCV:

"Online, print and outdoor advertising will help capture the mainstream audience.”

"For the core Mass Effect fan, we've been building on the immersive nature of the game with a host of trailers, social media activity and fan site activation."

“Mass Effect 3 follows on from a 96 Metacritic-rated game and everything suggests that the third iteration in the franchise is going to have the same, if not better, quality,” he concluded.

Mass Effect 3 is due for release on March 6 in the U.S. and arrives in Europe on March 9.

Still say this is a 3rd person/action game with RPG elements sprinkled in.

@1 and the point is? This is about pre-orders, not what genre the game is.

honestly the demo is one of the most painful moments I had in gaming (did it only to get the bonus item in Amalur), the cinematics were technically bad to look at, action was very generic, using powers is impossible when you're in cover (tried to use some kind of ice blast but it crushed on the low wall that was my cover), enemies were pretty standard robots/guys wearing futuristic metal armor, assiging points in "powers" didn't seem to make any difference (thus joining #1 in saying it's an action game with some RPG elements) ... sad to see gamers getting seduced by ads/hype rather than choosing a good game
