Tomb Raider reboot delayed

Crystal Dynamics has announced that the launch of its upcoming Tomb Raider reboot has been delayed until Q1 2013.

Writing on the official Tomb Raider blog, Darrell Gallagher, studio head at Crystal Dynamics, said that the team wants to ensure the adventurer is as polished as possible before delivering it to retail.

“We’re doing things that are completely new to Tomb Raider in this game and the additional development time will allow us to put the finishing touches into the game and polish it to a level that you deserve,” he said.

“Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move the game’s release date by a few months.”

Gallagher went on to say that the game will show up at E3 and is “looking amazing,” adding the team is eager to share it with fans.

“We truly believe that we have something very special on our hands and we can’t wait to share it with you.

“We believe this is the right choice and I guarantee it will be worth the wait. The game is looking amazing and we can’t wait to show it to everyone at E3 in a few weeks,” he added.

Tomb Raider was originally pencilled for release in late 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game marks the second reboot the series has endured since its inception in 1996, the first being 2006's Tomb Raider Legend.
