Golden Week is over in Japan, and as you might have expected game sales have tapered off pretty substantially, with PlayStation Vita posting the biggest decline as sales dip to around 6,000.

Sony’s new handheld sold 6,340 during the period ended May 13, marking its lowest weekly effort to date. Elsewhere, 3DS also suffered a noticeable drop, with sales sliding to 46,425 – still enough to put it at the top of the pile, however.

Over on the software front, PlayStation 3-exclusive shooter Starhawk made its debut at four with just over 12,800 units sold in its first week. Mario Party 9 and Fire Emblem Awakening claimed the top two positions, with Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City nabbing third place.

Sorry to say, but the portable gaming market just isn't what it used to be like back in the 90's....with more and more competition from both phones and tablets (i.e. iPads) there's less and less need for a stand-alone portable gaming device.

if peope stopped saying "we don't need portable consoles, cellular phones games are as good" - which is just another advertisement campaign for phones - and sheep people (90% of consumers) stopped believing that, the Vita would sell better
